Venezuela Defies US! What Happens Next Will Shock You!
Current Affairs 26 January 2026

Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez has publicly pushed back against what she calls persistent interference from the United States, declaring "Enough already of Washington's orders regarding politicians in Venezuela." The statement, delivered during a televised address to oil workers in Puerto La Cruz on Sunday, marks a significant shift, or at least the appearance of one, in the power dynamic since the controversial U.S.-orchestrated operation that brought her to power earlier this month.

Venezuela Defies US! What Happens Next Will Shock ...

Rodriguez assumed the interim presidency following the highly debated U.S. raid on January 3rd. It's worth remembering the initial rhetoric; President Trump initially declared that Washington would "run" Venezuela. He then softened his stance, offering support to Rodriguez, a move that raised eyebrows across the political spectrum.

Now, Rodriguez is singing a different tune, at least in public. "Let Venezuelan politics resolve our differences and our internal conflicts," she asserted, emphasizing the sacrifices Venezuela has made in confronting fascism and extremism. It's a bold statement, given the circumstances of her ascension to power. It makes one wonder, is this a genuine change of heart, or simply a calculated political maneuver? Time will certainly tell.

Following her swearing-in, Rodriguez pledged that no "foreign agent" would control Venezuela or transform it into a "colony." Interestingly, shortly after, CIA Director John Ratcliffe reportedly met with her in Caracas, supposedly conveying Trump's conditions for improved relations, including specific policy changes. The plot thickens, as they say.

However, subsequent actions suggest a level of cooperation that contradicts this renewed rhetoric of independence. Rodriguez has, in fact, aligned with key U.S. demands, notably opening Venezuela’s vital oil sector to American companies and actively cooperating on security matters. Trump has publicly lauded her as a "terrific person" after a recent phone call, pointing to "tremendous progress" made after fulfilling U.S. stipulations. He even hinted at a "spectacular" partnership on oil and national security, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggesting potential sanctions relief. A White House invitation is reportedly in the works.

The U.S. intervention in Venezuela has, predictably, drawn sharp condemnation internationally. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has decried it as a “flagrant violation of international law.” Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia went even further, denouncing Washington’s actions as “international banditry” driven by a thirst for “unlimited control over natural resources" during an emergency session of the UN Security Council. These are strong words, reflecting the deeply polarized geopolitical landscape in which this situation is unfolding.

Rodriguez's recent expression of frustration, claiming she has had "enough" of Washington's orders, seems at odds with the tangible steps she's taken to align with U.S. interests. This leaves us with a perplexing picture: is this a genuine assertion of sovereignty, a carefully crafted performance for domestic consumption, or simply a complex dance within a larger geopolitical game? Only time will reveal the true motivations behind these seemingly contradictory actions.
