Zelda Spin-Off Sells 1 Million?! Gamers STUNNED By Switch 2 Hit!
Gaming News 26 January 2026

Well, folks, it seems like Link isn't just saving Hyrule, he's also saving Nintendo's bottom line! *Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity*, the over-the-top, hack-and-slash Zelda spin-off, is absolutely crushing it. Nintendo and Koei Tecmo announced over the weekend that the game has officially sold over 1 million copies worldwide, and that's just on the Nintendo Switch 2. Not bad for a game that basically lets you mow down hordes of Bokoblins as if they were blades of grass!

Launched back in November, *Age of Calamity* isn't your typical Zelda adventure. Instead of puzzles and exploration, it focuses on pure, unadulterated action, giving players control of Link, Zelda, and a whole host of other characters to relive the events leading up to the Great Calamity. And clearly, people are digging it. The game has even received updates since launch, adding new weapons and even more formidable enemies to keep the action fresh. You know, just in case cleaving through thousands of monsters wasn't enough!

While Koei Tecmo only handled publishing duties in Japan, their recent third-quarter financial report clearly highlights the game's global success. So, regardless of where you're at, odds are somebody near you is busy unleashing their inner warrior on a Switch 2 screen. It's honestly not surprising, though. This title offered a totally different perspective on the Zelda mythos.

Before the game even hit shelves, our own reviewer was singing its praises, calling *Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity* the "richest offering yet" in the *Warriors* series. Strong words, but judging by the sales numbers, they seem to be holding true. It's a testament to the power of a well-executed spin-off, and a reminder that sometimes, all you need is a familiar world and a whole lot of enemies to slice through.

And in other Nintendo-related news, because the Big N is always keeping us on our toes, a brand new trailer for *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie* (working title, probably!) just dropped yesterday. We finally got our first glimpse of Yoshi, looking as adorable as ever, and even a spirited Birdo making an appearance. Seems like Nintendo is determined to conquer both the gaming and cinematic worlds simultaneously. Personally, I'm here for it. Bring on the nostalgia, the action, and the adorable dinosaurs!
