Super Mario Galaxy Movie: US Release Date SHOCKINGLY Moved UP!
Gaming News 25 January 2026

Well, folks, mark your calendars and grab your popcorn, because the Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming to the US sooner than we thought! Nintendo just dropped a surprise: the US release date has been bumped forward a couple of days.

Super Mario Galaxy Movie: US Release Date SHOCKING...

Originally slated for April 3rd, the highly anticipated sequel will now hit theaters stateside on April 1st. This move aligns the US release with its European counterpart, including the UK, meaning we can all join in the intergalactic Mario madness at the same time. It’s a smart move, really, keeps the spoilers down and the excitement up.

According to a statement from Nintendo, as reported by VGC, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will move from April 3, 2026, to April 1, 2026 in the US and many additional markets globally, and will be released on April 24, 2026, in Japan, with select territories releasing throughout April." So, while we're getting it a bit earlier here, our friends in Japan will have to wait a little longer, until April 24th. A bit of a bummer for them, but hey, at least *someone* gets an extra Mario day!

And if the new release date wasn't enough to get you hyped, Nintendo also unveiled a brand-new trailer over the weekend. This gave us our first official look at Yoshi and Birdo, who, let's be honest, were pretty much confirmed through leaks already. Still, seeing them in action is something else! The two-minute preview, introduced by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto himself, shows Mario and Luigi investigating a "troubled pipe." Knowing those two, it's probably a portal to another dimension filled with Goombas or something equally wacky. Gotta love it.

Beyond the familiar faces, the movie also introduces Bowser Junior and Rosalina to the big screen. And the casting for Rosalina is pretty spot-on, I think. Brie Larson, a known Nintendo fan, is voicing the character. I'm curious to see how she brings Rosalina to life.

Of course, it’s worth remembering the massive success of Illumination's first Mario outing, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. That thing was a certified blockbuster, raking in over $1 billion worldwide in 2023. That kind of success sets the bar pretty high for this sequel. Can Super Mario Galaxy live up to the hype? Only time will tell, but with the earlier release date and the fresh trailer, Nintendo is definitely setting the stage for another box office smash. April 1st can't come soon enough!
