Production is officially kicking off on Season 2 of "The Studio," and if you thought the first season was biting, buckle up. Chase Sui Wonders, who brings the ambitious (and sometimes clueless) junior studio executive Quinn Hackett to life, dropped some hints about what we can expect, and it sounds like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are really going for it.
Chase Sui Wonders STUNS! 'The Studio' Season 2 Sec...
Speaking with Deadline at the Sundance Film Festival, Wonders revealed that the show's creators are "definitely pushing the needle" with the new season of their Golden Globe-winning satire. Now, "pushing the needle" in Hollywood parlance can mean a lot of things, but considering the show already skewers the industry's excesses and absurdities, it suggests they're not holding back. And honestly, with the current state of the entertainment landscape – streaming wars, AI anxieties, and everything in between – there's plenty of material to lampoon.
"It's definitely a level up," Wonders confirmed. That's good news! No one wants a sophomore slump. "We've already started filming, and I think everyone is laughing harder and louder than they did last season, even in our first week." A happy set usually translates to a better product, so that's definitely encouraging. I mean, who doesn't want to see a show where even the actors are cracking up?
And the best part? It sounds like we can expect some self-deprecating cameos from familiar faces. "I can't say much, but there are some familiar faces that you'll be very excited to see making fun of themselves," Wonders teased. This is where "The Studio" really shines. Getting industry heavyweights to poke fun at their own image (or the industry's perception of them) is comedy gold.
Remember those Golden Globe wins this month? Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and Best Actor for Rogen himself. Well, Rogen hinted that the night wasn't just about celebrating, but also about recruiting. He told reporters that there were "a few people we roped in tonight" for cameos, playfully adding, "This is a good poaching ground for us." Clever guy. It's a win-win, really. The show gets some A-list cameos, and those A-listers get to show off their comedic chops and prove they don't take themselves too seriously. I'm already eager to see who they managed to "poach" this time around. Season 2 can't come soon enough!
