CBS is diving back into the Culinary competition scene, and they're bringing out the big guns. Forget lukewarm appetizers; they're serving up a potential feast with their new show, "America's Culinary Cup." And frankly, the judging panel alone has my mouth watering.
'America's Culinary Cup': SHOCKING Judge Reveal St...
Padma Lakshmi, a name practically synonymous with high-stakes cooking thanks to her long tenure on "Top Chef," is hosting. But she's not alone. Joining her at the judges' table are culinary titans Michael Cimarusti and Wylie Dufresne. Cimarusti, a three-Michelin-starred chef from Providence in Los Angeles, brings serious fine-dining credentials. He's also no stranger to TV, having previously graced "Top Chef," "MasterChef," and even "Hell's Kitchen." Talk about a resume!
Then there's Dufresne. This is the guy who turned New York City's food scene on its head with wd-50, the restaurant that dared to deep-fry mayonnaise. Yeah, you read that right. Beyond that, he's been behind some seriously drool-worthy doughnut and pizza concepts. He’s even been parodied on "SNL" and popped up in shows like "Treme" and "The Bear." Safe to say, he's bringing a whole lot of personality – and a touch of avant-garde – to the table.
But what exactly are these culinary gladiators judging? "America's Culinary Cup" promises a clash of the titans, pitting the nation's most decorated chefs against each other. The competition revolves around what they're calling "10 culinary commandments." We're talking everything from mastering meat and vegetables to the art of sauces, dazzling desserts, and groundbreaking innovation. Sustainability, world cuisine, consistency, and culinary science and technology also make the cut. It's a pretty comprehensive checklist, designed to test every facet of a chef's skill set.
And the stakes? Oh, just a cool million dollars. That's enough to make even the most seasoned chef sweat a little. The show premieres with a special 90-minute episode on Wednesday, March 4, following the launch of "Survivor's" landmark 50th season on February 25. Smart scheduling, CBS. Smart scheduling.
The series is a collaboration between Lakshmi's Delicious Entertainment and Susan Rovner's Aha Studios. Interestingly, Lakshmi and Rovner have a history, having worked together when Lakshmi was on Bravo and Rovner was at NBCUniversal. It seems like a natural partnership, and I'm genuinely curious to see what they cook up together. "America's Culinary Cup" has the potential to be more than just another cooking show; with this lineup and the focus on a broad spectrum of culinary skills, it could be the next big thing in food television. Let the games (and the grilling) begin!
