Get ready, spacefaring Mario fans! Nintendo just dropped a surprise announcement: a second dedicated Nintendo Direct for "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" is coming this Sunday, January 25th. Mark your calendars for 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET, because that's when the magic is set to happen over on Nintendo's YouTube channel.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 Movie?! Fans Stunned by Surpr...
This is a bit of a surprise, honestly. We already got a pretty substantial Direct back in November, showcasing a new trailer and giving us some cool behind-the-scenes peeks at the sequel to the massively successful 2023 film. But hey, I'm not complaining! More Mario is always a good thing, especially when it involves one of my personal favorite entries in the franchise, "Super Mario Galaxy."
Now, before you get your hopes up for a potential game announcement alongside the movie news, Nintendo has been crystal clear about this: this Direct is strictly about the film. A statement on their website explicitly states that "no game information will be included in this presentation." So, temper those expectations if you were dreaming of a "Super Mario Galaxy 3" reveal or even a tie-in game.
The last Direct gave us a glimpse at some key new characters joining the Mushroom Kingdom crew on the big screen. We saw our first look at Brie Larson as the enigmatic Rosalina, a casting choice I'm still incredibly excited about. Plus, we got to see Bowser Jr., voiced by none other than Benny Safdie! It'll be interesting to see what new nuggets of information Nintendo chooses to share this time around. Perhaps we'll get a longer trailer, maybe even some hints about the movie's plot?
Nintendo also shared some updates during the last direct, including the fact that the movie was only weeks away from completion, which made the November Direct a bit of a teaser for the film.
In the meantime, if you need a Mario fix before Sunday, you could always rewatch the reveal trailer for the movie. Or, if you're feeling particularly nostalgic, fire up that "Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2" bundle that just dropped (because who wouldn't want to revisit those classics?). Whatever you do, be sure to set your alarm for Sunday morning – this is one intergalactic adventure you won't want to miss!
