McLaren's 2026 SHOCK Plan REVEALED! What Will Happen?!
Automotive 23 January 2026

The rumor mill is churning, folks, and this time it's about what McLaren's got cooking up beyond their already drool-worthy hypercars. We all know about the W1, the P1 successor, slated for deliveries in 2026. Exciting stuff! But hold on, because there’s something else brewing in Woking that's even more unexpected: McLaren is finally, *finally*, entering the SUV game.

McLaren's 2026 SHOCK Plan REVEALED! What Will Happ...

For years, they've resisted the siren song of high-riding vehicles, sticking to their low-slung, performance-focused roots. Now, it seems even McLaren can't deny the market demand. The word is they're developing their first-ever SUV, with an expected reveal sometime around 2028. I wouldn't be surprised if we see glimpses of a prototype sooner, maybe even as early as 2026. That would give us our first real look at the underpinnings and design direction.

Right now, details are about as scarce as hens' teeth. We don't even have an official name yet. Apparently, the project is codenamed "P47." But here’s a little tidbit: McLaren has recently trademarked some intriguing names like "Solus," "Aeron," and "Aonic." Any of those could potentially grace the flanks of their new SUV. Personally, I'm leaning towards "Aeron"—it just sounds sophisticated and fast, doesn’t it?

So, what’s under the hood? Sources suggest the McLaren SUV might borrow a hybrid V8 engine similar to the one found in the W1 hypercar. Now, whether it'll be tuned for the same insane level of performance in a heavier SUV remains to be seen. One thing's for sure, it won't be cheap. Early estimates put the price tag starting around €300,000. That puts it squarely in the Lamborghini Urus territory – serious competition indeed!

Meanwhile, let's not forget about the W1! After its grand unveiling in 2024 and a year of rigorous testing throughout 2025, it's finally nearing its market debut. This beast packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine working in tandem with an electric motor, delivering a mind-boggling 1,275 horsepower and 1,353 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds? Yes, please! And a top speed of 350 km/h. It's a hypercar in every sense of the word.

Interestingly, the W1's electric system isn't your typical plug-in hybrid. It's more of a performance enhancer. The relatively small 1.4 kWh battery primarily powers the 337-horsepower electric motor. This clever design keeps the total weight below 1,400 kg, resulting in a bonkers power-to-weight ratio of 991 horsepower per ton. Looks like McLaren is about to seriously shake up both the hypercar and, soon enough, the SUV markets.
