Okay, so Riot Games isn't exactly a stranger to runaway success. League of Legends basically *is* the MOBA genre, after all. But even with that in mind, the early numbers for their new trading card game, Riftbound, are pretty eye-popping. We're talking serious traction right out of the gate.
Riftbound TAKEOVER! League of Legends TCG Explodes...
According to data crunched over at TCGplayer, the big online marketplace for all things trading card related, daily searches for Riftbound have jumped over 300% since it launched. That's not a typo. Three. Hundred. Percent. People are definitely looking for this thing.
TCGplayer's CEO, Rob Bigler, put it pretty succinctly, calling Riftbound's early success "a huge positive for the hobby." He told IGN that it shows fans are genuinely hyped to interact with the characters and worlds they already love, but in a new way. And he’s got a point. A good TCG isn't just about the game; it's about building a community and extending that fandom in a way that feels authentic.
And Riftbound has a lot of fuel for that fire. Think about it: you've got the enormous popularity of League of Legends as the base, the critically acclaimed Netflix series *Arcane* drawing in even more fans, and the upcoming fighting game, *2XKO,* on the horizon. It’s a perfect storm of brand recognition and built-in interest. Predictably, the launch saw an explosion of cards and sealed product hitting TCGplayer.
Getting your hands on sealed Riftbound product early on was a bit of a challenge, honestly. But TCGplayer reported a massive 750% increase in listings within just a month of launch. Let's put that in perspective. On October 30th, they had around 68,600 listings. The very next day? That number nearly doubled to over 118,100. By the end of November, we were looking at over half a million listings. Supply is catching up with demand, it seems.
Now, if you missed the initial rush, don't worry. The second set, *Spiritforged*, is coming to the West on February 13th, hot on the heels of its December release in China. Pre-orders are already live, so if you're looking to jump in, now's probably the time. Looks like Riot might just have another hit on their hands.
