Ready, Set, Popcorn!: Upcoming Romance Books Turned Into Movies for 2026
2026's Steamiest Romances: From Page to Screen... ...
Romance aficionados, prepare to swoon! Winter 2026 promises a deluge of beloved book-to-screen adaptations guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings. From contemporary tales of friendship and second chances to gothic period pieces, get ready to settle in. Here’s a sneak peek at the romance adaptations set to dominate screens next year.
Now, let’s be real for a second. While the romance genre in literature boasts considerable diversity, its screen counterparts still have ground to cover. This list currently features adaptations of works by white authors, a point worth noting while acknowledging the invaluable contributions of countless actors, crew members, writers, and producers of color to these productions. The good news is that 2026 is still far away. So, fingers crossed we'll see more diverse stories and voices represented as more projects are announced.
First up, Emily Henry devotees, rejoice! _People We Meet on Vacation_, one of her most beloved novels, is hitting Netflix on January 9, 2026. Directed by Brett Haley, with a screenplay by Yulin Kuang, the film stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth as Poppy and Alex. The film chronicles their 12-year friendship and those always-anticipated annual vacations. After a disastrous trip to Croatia, the pair cease contact, only for Poppy to attempt a reconciliation. I'm personally very interested to see how they handle the novel's non-linear narrative. That's a tricky thing to pull off on screen!
Fun fact: Screenwriter Yulin Kuang is *also* the author of the romance novel _How To End A Love Story!_ Talk about multi-talented! Furthermore, Henry's _Beach Read_ is also expected to be released soon, though not necessarily in 2026.
For those of you still hooked on _Bridgerton_, Season four will drop on Netflix January 29, 2026, and this time, it's all about Benedict Bridgerton! This season will focus on his romance with Sophie Baek (Beckett in the books), a servant enduring the cruelty of her stepmother. A chance encounter at Lady Bridgerton's masquerade ball sees Benedict treat her like royalty. Yerin Ha, Katie Leung, Michelle Mao, and Isabella Wei join the cast as Sophie and her stepfamily. Expect opulent gowns and elaborate hairstyles galore, naturally!
Brooding romantics, look no further! On February 13, 2026, Warner Bros. Pictures will release Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Emily Brontë's _Wuthering Heights_. This isn't your grandma's _Wuthering Heights_ either; it's being described as a stylized, erotic take on the gothic masterpiece. Margot Robbie stars as Cathy, with Jacob Elordi playing Heathcliff. And, because why not, the soundtrack will be provided by Charlie XCX! This one is definitely going to be… a choice.
Lastly, Colleen Hoover fans can prepare for a good cry on March 13, 2026. Universal Pictures is releasing _Reminders of Him_, directed by Vanessa Caswill, with a screenplay by Hoover herself, along with Lauren Levine. Maika Monroe portrays Kenna, a troubled young woman who, after causing a fatal car crash, spends seven years in prison. Upon release, she attempts to reunite with her daughter, forging a connection with a compassionate bar owner, Ledger (Tyriq Withers). Grab your tissues, folks. You'll need 'em.
And speaking of Colleen Hoover, fans can also look forward to the adaptation of _Verity_, also slated for release sometime in 2026. It's shaping up to be a big year for romance on screen!
