Alright folks, Audi's officially thrown their hat into the Formula 1 ring – and they've done it with a bang. Last night in Berlin, the German automaker unveiled their new factory team, Audi Revolut F1, and their challenger for the 2026 season, the Audi R26. Held at the iconic Kraftwerk Berlin, the launch event was a spectacle, a clear signal that Audi isn't just dabbling in F1, they're here to make a serious statement.

The R26 is more than just a pretty face, of course. It's built to comply with the radical 2026 F1 regulations, which are poised to shake up the sport in a big way. But the real star of the show is the new power unit, dubbed AFR 26 Hybrid, developed in-house at Audi’s Neuburg an der Donau facility. We're talking a 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine paired with a potent electric motor capable of delivering up to 350 kW. Add to that the focus on sustainable fuels, thanks to a partnership with bp, and you've got a power unit that's both powerful and forward-thinking.
The 2026 rules are really where Audi sees their opportunity. With the increased emphasis on electric power and active aerodynamics, the engineering challenges are immense. But, as Audi CEO Gernot Döllner put it, "Today, many pieces of the puzzle are coming together. It’s impressive to see what intensive preparation has yielded. By entering Formula 1, we are underlining our technological leadership and inspiring people worldwide." It's a bold claim, but the investment and effort they're putting in seem to back it up.
Beyond the car itself, Audi also introduced their core team for the 2026 season. Nico Hulkenberg is locked in as a driver, a solid choice given his experience and consistency. He'll be joined by Gabriel Bortoleto. Jonathan Wheatley will serve as Team Director, while Mattia Binotto leads the Audi F1 project overall. A competent team, for sure. And I've got to say, the new team gear looks pretty sharp too – the fan collection will be available on the team's website and through Adidas, starting February 19th.
But it's not just about performance; Audi is also keen on establishing a distinct brand identity. The bespoke visual identity for the Audi Revolut F1 Team is designed to make the team stand out, from the track to social media. This comprehensive approach really highlights that Audi intends to build an impactful brand within F1. Now, all that’s left to see is whether Audi's blend of German engineering and Formula 1 ambition will translate into success on the track. I, for one, am eager to find out.
