Hold on to your hats, Lorcana fans! Disney Lorcana's *Winterspell* expansion is just around the corner, promising a flurry of new cards and strategies. And we've got an exclusive peek at two cards straight from the kingdom of Arendelle: Anna – Soothing Sister and the heart-tugging song card, "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?". As a long-time TCG enthusiast, I'm always eager to see how new sets will shake up the meta, and these cards definitely have my attention.
Frozen Fans Stunned! Anna's New Lorcana Card Leake...
According to IGN's reveal, *Winterspell* is set to officially launch on February 13th at local game stores and Disney Stores, with a wider release following on February 20th. One of the standout Legendary cards is undoubtedly Anna – Soothing Sister. What makes her so special? Well, she boasts a 0 ink shift cost, which is a first for Disney Lorcana. This opens up some seriously exciting possibilities for combo-heavy turns, letting you get her into play *and* still have ink to spare for other powerful cards.
Lukas Litzsinger, the Game Design Lead for *Winterspell*, explained that this ability allows players to "put together some truly impressive turns," potentially swinging the game in your favor. However, there’s a catch! Anna's power comes with a condition: a card must have left a player's discard pile that turn. Thankfully, *Winterspell* seems to be packed with ways to make that happen. It's all about strategic discards and clever timing, folks. This isn't just raw power; it's strategic depth, and I'm all here for it.
But it's not just about gameplay. Litzsinger also pointed out the thematic connection between Anna and Elsa – Ice Artisan. He notes how Anna's spring-themed costume reflects her role in balancing Elsa's more volatile nature. It's a really nice touch, reminding us that these cards are more than just stats and abilities; they're a way to tell stories. The card "Do You Want To Build a Snowman?", captures the sisters' bond as well. "We get to see both these glimmers come together in 'Do You Want To Build a Snowman?' and really feel the tension in the moment--Anna isn’t as upset with Elsa as perhaps she fears," said Giuffrida.
And if *Frozen* isn't your thing, don't fret! *Winterspell* will also feature "Papercut Style" variants of Moana – Curious Explorer and Pocahontas – Peacekeeper, evoking the charm of paper snowflake decorations. It seems like Ravensburger are really putting their all into the artistic direction of this set. Looking even further down the line, we know that the *Attack of the Vine!* set is slated for a Summer release, bringing with it glimmers of *Monsters, Inc.'s* Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan. Clearly, the future of Disney Lorcana is looking bright (and maybe a little bit monstrous!). February can't come soon enough!
