Trump's Greenland Golf Course DREAM... DEAD?! What Happens Now?!
Current Affairs 21 January 2026

Well, folks, it seems like the whole Greenland golf course saga can finally be put to rest. President Trump, in a recent interview, explicitly stated he has "no plans" to turn the icy expanse into a golfing paradise or any other kind of real estate development. I know, I know, some of you were already picturing a luxury resort nestled between icebergs. But according to Trump, it's just too darn cold and icy for that kind of thing. Can't say I disagree!

Trump's Greenland Golf Course DREAM... DEAD?! What...

His rationale for wanting to acquire Greenland, however, remains firmly rooted in national security. He's painting it as a strategic imperative, citing concerns over Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic. Now, Moscow and Beijing are, of course, denying these claims, and it's worth noting that Russia has been pretty vocal about NATO's increasing presence in the region. They'd prefer it remain a peaceful zone of cooperation, which, honestly, sounds pretty good to me.

But here's where things get a bit dicey. This whole Greenland pursuit seems to be creating some serious friction with our European allies. Trump has already slapped tariffs on several NATO countries, including Denmark, for opposing his bid and, get this, sending troops to the island. Talk about escalating tensions! And the Greenland Prime Minister? He's gone so far as to say that a military conflict with the US "can't be ruled out." Yikes.

The rhetoric from European leaders has been, shall we say, colorful. One Danish MEP reportedly told Trump to "f**k off" during a European Parliament debate. Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever went even further, describing Trump's threats as "unheard of" and warning that Europe is at a "crossroads." He even suggested it could mark "the end of an era of 80 years of Atlantism." Strong words, indeed.

This isn't just some diplomatic spat; it's potentially fracturing the very foundation of NATO. Some officials are reportedly withholding intelligence from the US, fearing it could be used to further Trump's Greenland ambitions. That's a pretty serious breakdown of trust. So, while the golf course may be off the table, the fallout from this Greenland situation could have long-lasting consequences for international relations and, specifically, the future of the NATO alliance. It's certainly a story worth watching, and I'll keep you all updated as it develops.
