The Costa del Sol is about to get a serious dose of Polish spirit (and some impressive dance moves!) this weekend as the local Polish community gears up to host the 34th Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP). If you haven't heard of it, WOŚP is kind of a big deal. It's an annual fundraising extravaganza that's become a cornerstone for the Polish diaspora around the world.
Community Rallies! Heartwarming Support for Charit...
Think vibrant flamenco blending with the infectious rhythms of salsa, all for a good cause. This isn't just some small-town bake sale; WOŚP raises millions each year to support vital charitable causes, primarily focusing on much-needed medical equipment and healthcare programs back in Poland. It's a powerful example of community coming together, no matter where they are in the world.
Mark your calendars: Sunday, January 25, 2026, is the day. The party (and fundraising!) happens at La Caseta de CEPyME in the Recinto Ferial. Everyone's invited to join the fun, which promises a full day of music, auctions, and activities perfect for the whole family. All in support of Polish public healthcare, naturally.
Agnes Inversiones is the driving force behind this year's event, with the festivities kicking off at 1 p.m. The schedule is packed! Expect a vibrant blend of cultural performances and the kind of heartwarming charitable giving that's made this event a cherished tradition here on the Costa del Sol. I've seen firsthand how enthusiastic the local community is about this, and it's truly something special.
The energy cranks up in the evening. Ewa Podwysocka will lead a Zumba session at 5:15 p.m., followed by salsa and bachata lessons courtesy of Edison Castro at 6:15 p.m. And yes, the auctions will be ongoing throughout the day and evening, so keep your eyes peeled for some great deals and chances to donate.
The music continues with the POP FM concert at 7 p.m., leading into more auctions at 7:30 p.m. Then, at 8 p.m., get ready for the "Light to the Sky" fireworks display. This is a WOŚP tradition, a symbolic burst of hope for the year ahead. The night wraps up with the second act of the concert at 8:15 p.m.
But the bidding has already begun! You can currently place bids on some pretty cool exclusive auction items. Imagine a round of golf with entrepreneur Rafał Brzoska at the prestigious Old Course La Zagaleta, or maybe a tennis ball signed by tennis star Hubert Hurkacz is more your style. There's also a signed sweatshirt and book from hockey legend Mariusz Czerkawski, and even DVDs signed by the comedy troupe Kabaret Smile. It's impressive to see the global reach of this event, drawing support from celebrities and everyday folks eager to contribute.
As Jurek Owsiak, the founder of WOŚP, always says, “Helping is child’s play!” So whether you're Polish, a local Spaniard, or just an expat looking for a fun way to escape the January chill, this Grand Finale offers a perfect opportunity to connect with the community and support a fantastic cause. Seriously, everyone is welcome! And remember, the money raised directly benefits Polish hospitals, with crucial medical supplies being delivered daily. So come on down, join the fun, and support Fuengirola’s Polish community as they welcome everyone with open arms.
