Ryanair TROLLS Musk! €16.99 Flight Sale Called What?! 😲
Current Affairs 21 January 2026

Ryanair, known for its budget flights and even cheaper shots at anyone who dares cross it, has taken its latest target: Elon Musk. The airline is trolling the billionaire with a €16.99 "big idiots" flight sale, directly referencing their recent public squabble.

Ryanair TROLLS Musk! €16.99 Flight Sale Called Wha...

The flash sale, advertised with the tagline "Great Idiots' seat sale," offers 100,000 seats at the bargain price, specifically aimed, the company says, at Musk and fellow users of X. It's pretty brazen, even for Ryanair.

The feud began, predictably, online. Musk, in one of his many pronouncements, suggested Ryanair should equip its planes with Starlink satellite internet. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary, never one to mince words, responded with a scathing dismissal. Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk, he basically called Musk clueless about aviation economics. O'Leary estimated the cost of Starlink installation at $200-250 million *per year*, adding about a dollar to each passenger's fare. He argued passengers wouldn't pay for internet, even a single euro. Then, he went full O’Leary, calling Musk "an idiot" and X a "cesspit." Strong words, even for the budget airline world.

Instead of backing down or issuing a carefully worded apology (as if!), Ryanair doubled down, turning the spat into a prime marketing opportunity. They announced the "Great Idiots" sale, joking that Musk might need "a break" from running X and inviting him and other "idiots" on the platform to grab a discounted seat. It's the kind of move that makes you simultaneously cringe and admire their audacity.

The airline isn’t stopping there. O'Leary plans to address the controversy at a press conference in Dublin, promising to respond to Musk's "latest Twitshit" – a jab that’s both juvenile and perfectly encapsulates Ryanair's communication strategy. He even posted a poll on X, asking users if he should buy "the world's most profitable airline." (Spoiler alert: the majority voted yes). I've got to admit, the man has a knack for getting attention.

This isn't exactly new territory for Ryanair. They've practically built their brand on cheap fares, aggressive PR, and a general disregard for corporate niceties. Whether it's battling with regulators, politicians, or now, tech titans, Ryanair seems to thrive on controversy.

Whether Musk will actually book a €16.99 flight remains to be seen. Honestly, I doubt it. But Ryanair has already achieved its goal: attention. They’ve snagged headlines and gone viral again. All thanks to a quick online spat and a very cheap flight sale. You have to wonder if Musk is secretly impressed, or just annoyed. Either way, Ryanair is laughing all the way to the bank (or at least, to the next landing strip).
