Hitman Fans Stunned! Legacy Transfer Ends - What Happens Now?!
Gaming News 20 January 2026

Stealthy assassins, rejoice! IO Interactive, the masters of digital murder behind the Hitman franchise, has finally answered the prayers of globetrotting gamers. Cross-platform progression is coming to Hitman: World of Assassination next month, meaning you can pick up your silenced pistol and meticulously planned eliminations seamlessly across your PC, console, or even your phone. That's right, Agent 47 is going truly mobile.

For those who might be a little late to the party, Hitman 3 (now rebranded as Hitman: World of Assassination) originally launched five years ago on a bewildering array of platforms – PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Stadia (RIP), and even the Switch via cloud streaming. Since then, Agent 47's hit list has only grown, adding more devices to his repertoire. Now, finally, your progress can travel with you.

The update drops on February 3rd, and it's mostly good news. You'll be able to designate a "Primary Account," which basically acts as your central hub for all things Hitman. All your unlocked levels, challenges completed, and hard-earned items will be synced to IO Interactive's servers, ready for you to access on any device where you log in. Imagine perfecting a silent assassin run on your PC, then hopping onto your iPad during your commute to complete a few elusive challenges. Sounds pretty sweet, right?

However, there's a slight sting in the tail. While this new era of cross-progression dawns, IO Interactive is also sunsetting the old system of transferring progress from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3. So, if you've been dragging your feet on that carryover, you've got until February 3rd to get it done. After that, you're out of luck.

IO Interactive’s reasoning is sound, though. They state that ending the old carryover ensures "data integrity" and avoids "conflicts" with the new unified system. Fair enough. They're giving everyone a two-week heads-up, so hopefully, nobody gets caught out. I remember the hassle of transferring saves between consoles back in the day – anything to avoid that kind of headache is a win in my book.

It's also crucial to remember that cross-progression doesn't mean cross-purchase. Just because you own the game (or DLC) on PC doesn't automatically unlock it on your PlayStation, Switch, or iPhone. You'll still need to buy the game separately for each platform you want to play on. Bummer, I know, but that's the reality of the gaming landscape these days.

Looking ahead, IO Interactive is a busy bee. Besides ongoing work on Hitman: World of Assassination, they're developing a co-op mode (intriguing!), the James Bond title 007 First Light, and a mysterious new fantasy IP codenamed Project Fantasy. Oh, and apparently Hitman 4 is on the horizon. Safe to say, there's plenty to look forward to from this talented studio.
