Talk about a Cinderella story! A die-hard Indiana Hoosiers fan is on the cusp of turning a measly $15 into a cool $5,500 thanks to an incredibly prescient – and frankly, quite bold – preseason parlay bet. The only thing standing between Kendall Elliott and a mountain of cash (or pizza, as she suggests) is Indiana’s performance in the College Football Playoff title game against Miami this Monday night. It's the kind of story that even non-sports fans can get excited about.
Indiana to the CFP?! $15 Bet Could Win a Shocking ...
Patrick Everson first reported on Elliott's potentially massive payout. Apparently, this wasn't just a casual toss-away bet. Elliott, according to her X (formerly Twitter) profile, has suffered through the lean years as a dedicated season ticket holder. You've gotta admire that kind of loyalty. Apparently, she was inspired by their performance the season before, which saw an 11-1 record in Curt Cignetti’s first year as coach, even if they fell short in the playoffs. That's when she laid down the audacious four-leg futures parlay.
Think about the odds she was facing back then! Before the season even started, Elliott wagered on what seemed like a series of incredibly unlikely events. But by December 7th, the first three legs had already hit, leaving everyone, including probably Elliott herself, stunned. Indiana completed a perfect 12-0 regular season – a feat in itself! – and then followed it up by clinching their CFP spot with a nail-biting 13-10 victory over Ohio State in the Big Ten title game. After that, they received a first-round bye as the top seed.
The Hoosiers continued their dominant run in the playoffs, crushing No. 9 Alabama 38-3 in the quarterfinals. Then came the semifinal rematch against No. 5 Oregon. It’s worth remembering that Indiana had already upset Oregon on the road earlier in the season, winning as a 7-point underdog. This time around, as 3-point favorites, they absolutely demolished the Ducks, winning 56-22. A real statement game.
Now, the final hurdle: No. 10 Miami. The championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET Monday at Hard Rock Stadium, which, adding another layer of intrigue, is the Hurricanes' home turf. But even with that home-field advantage for Miami, the Hoosiers are currently consensus 8.5-point favorites to bring home the title. Can they pull it off? If they do, Elliott's $15 flutter will transform into a staggering $5,509.11. That's a serious return on investment, and a testament to both Indiana's incredible season and one very lucky, very loyal fan.
