Alright, Sheridan-verse fans, buckle up. We've just gotten our first glimpse of Taylor Sheridan's latest offering, "The Madison," and it looks like it's going to be a heavy hitter. The teaser dropped during the Season 2 finale of "Landman," which is a smart move if you ask me, and it immediately piqued my interest. Between the sweeping Montana landscapes and the powerhouse cast, this show has all the makings of another Sheridan success.
'The Madison' SHOCKER: Pfeiffer & Russell In, But ...
The teaser opens with Michelle Pfeiffer, who's playing Stacy Clyburn, delivering a line that just cuts right through you: "My center, my soul is gone." Oof. You can already feel the grief radiating off the screen. And who's she delivering this emotionally charged line to? None other than Will Arnett! Apparently, he's playing Phil Yorn, a New York City-based therapist, and Deadline exclusively revealed that he'll be a recurring guest star. Now, that's an interesting casting choice. Arnett is known for his comedic roles, so seeing him in a more serious, supporting role definitely adds another layer of intrigue. I'm curious to see how he handles the dramatic weight of the material.
The premise seems straightforward enough: the Clyburn family, reeling from some unspecified tragedy (though I'm betting it involves Kurt Russell's character, Preston, Stacy's husband), decides to pack up their lives in New York City and relocate to The Madison River valley in Montana. Naturally, a change of scenery is never quite that simple, and the teaser hints at the challenges they'll face adjusting to their new surroundings. There's even a Native American-themed exchange, suggesting that Sheridan will be exploring themes of cultural identity and belonging, which he's certainly not shy about.
From what's been revealed, "The Madison" is being touted as Sheridan's most personal work to date. That's a pretty bold claim, considering the raw emotion already present in shows like "Yellowstone" and "Mayor of Kingstown." Described as a study of grief and human connection, it sounds like this series will delve deep into the complexities of family relationships, set against the backdrop of both Montana's rugged beauty and Manhattan's urban grit. The six-episode first season is set to premiere on Paramount+ on March 14th, and here's the kicker: a second season is already in the can! That's a pretty big vote of confidence from the streamer.
Beyond Pfeiffer, Russell, and Arnett, the cast is stacked. We've got Beau Garrett, Elle Chapman, Patrick J. Adams, Amiah Miller, Alaina Pollack, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Danielle Vasinova, and even Matthew Fox rounding things out. It really seems like Paramount is pulling out all the stops on this production. Considering the impressive list of executive producers, including Pfeiffer and Russell themselves, "The Madison" clearly has a lot of creative firepower behind it. I'm definitely marking my calendar for March 14th. This is one Sheridan project I don't want to miss.
