Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared victory over the United States, stating that Iran has successfully quelled the recent unrest that swept through the country. According to Khamenei, the protests, which began in late December, were fueled by economic grievances but quickly morphed into broader anti-government demonstrations, resulting in violent clashes and significant casualties on both sides.
Khamenei Declares Victory Over US: Is This the End...
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, Khamenei laid the blame for the unrest squarely at the feet of Washington and Tel Aviv. He specifically accused the U.S. of masterminding the entire operation, alleging that extensive preparations were made to orchestrate the "sedition." He went on to suggest that this was merely a prelude to even larger, more insidious schemes. "The Iranian nation defeated the US," he proclaimed.
Interestingly, Khamenei even implicated former President Donald Trump, citing Trump's promise of "help on its way" to the protestors and the deployment of American warships to the Middle East. It's quite a claim, considering the complex relationship between the two countries, to say the least. News outlets have previously reported on the possibility of a US strike on Iran during the period, but that ultimately didn’t materialize.
While acknowledging the suppression of the protests, Khamenei stressed that it was not enough. "Yes, we extinguished the fire of the sedition, but that isn’t enough. The US must be held accountable," he stated. He affirmed that Tehran is not seeking war, but also asserted that the country would not simply let the alleged criminals involved, both within and outside Iran, go unpunished. This rhetoric, while expected given the circumstances, certainly adds fuel to an already tense geopolitical situation.
Reports from other sources suggest that Tehran has warned neighboring countries that it might target US bases in the Middle East if Washington were to carry out any threats of military action against the Islamic Republic. The Supreme Leader also made serious accusations about the scale of the damage, claiming that "agents" of the US and Israel murdered thousands of people and vandalized mosques, educational institutions, and critical infrastructure. The numbers, of course, are difficult to independently verify. These are strong words, and the situation continues to develop. It's clear that this is far from over.
