Saturday Night Live is back, baby! And after a much-needed holiday break, they kicked things off with a bang, resurrecting one of my personal favorite recurring sketches: the "Boys Podcast." You know the one – Chloe Fineman absolutely kills it as Braylor, that hyper-articulate, slightly-too-mature 12-year-old who hosts "Snack Homiez," the podcast for discerning young snack enthusiasts.
SNL's "Snack Homiez" Reboot: Rocky, Carpenter & Wo...
The skit originally popped up during Sabrina Carpenter's hosting debut, and tonight, thankfully, Carpenter returned to grace us with her presence. Seriously, the chemistry between her and Fineman is comedic gold. They just bounce off each other so well. The premise is simple: four young podcasters, all somewhere between 12 and 13 (at least in their minds!), dissect the merits of various snack foods with a seriousness that's both hilarious and strangely endearing. It's the kind of thing that makes you think, "Okay, maybe these kids are onto something…"
This time around, things got even more delightfully absurd. Braylor's 6-year-old cousin, played by this week's host, Finn Wolfhard, was thrown into the mix. Wolfhard, described as "lowkey famous on Twitch," brought a whole new level of chaotic energy to the already manic proceedings. Honestly, seeing him hold his own against Fineman's Braylor was a testament to his comedic timing. He leaned into the awkwardness and the absurdity beautifully. It's safe to say the snack reviews took some unexpected turns.
The whole sketch just works. It’s the perfect blend of sharp writing, spot-on performances, and a healthy dose of Gen Z humor that manages to be both self-aware and genuinely funny. I think the key is that it's not just making fun of young people; it's celebrating their unique perspectives and the way they interact with the world, even if that world revolves around sugary treats and the latest TikTok trends.
While A$AP Rocky didn't actually appear in the "Snack Homiez" sketch itself (as the initial headline suggests), his musical performance was definitely a highlight of the night. But let's be real, the return of "Boys Podcast" and the perfectly cast Finn Wolfhard were the real MVPs of this week's SNL. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm suddenly craving some sort of obscure, limited-edition snack… I blame Braylor and the crew.
