UAE Weather SHOCK! Temperatures PLUMMET - What Will Happen Next?!
Current Affairs 18 January 2026

The United Arab Emirates is reaching for its sweaters again, folks. A weather alert has been issued as temperatures are expected to dip to a surprisingly cool 18°C (that's around 64°F for us non-metric folks) on January 18, 2026. It's a far cry from the scorching desert heat most associate with the region, and residents are being urged to take precautions.

UAE Weather SHOCK! Temperatures PLUMMET - What Wil...

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), we can expect partly cloudy skies and moderate winds accompanying the chill. Daytime highs are forecast to hover around 25°C, but those overnight lows – especially in Abu Dhabi (18°C) and Dubai (19°C) – are what's prompting the advisory. I remember visiting Dubai a few years back in January; even *I* was surprised how much the temperature dropped at night. You definitely need a jacket!

This isn't a one-off event, either. This cool spell is part of a broader winter chill that's been gripping the region for a couple of weeks now. We're talking lower daytime temperatures, crisper nights, and that classic winter phenomenon: early-morning fog and mist, especially inland. Makes you almost feel like you're in Europe… almost.

While widespread rainfall isn't anticipated for now, the NCM is keeping a close eye on those cloud formations. There's a higher probability of mist or light fog developing during the night and early morning, particularly in internal areas. So, if you're planning an early morning desert safari, maybe double-check the weather report before you head out.

The NCM's weather alert specifically addresses the potential for reduced visibility due to fog, strong winds, and rough sea conditions. Fog and low-visibility warnings are in effect for inland and coastal areas, urging motorists to drive with extra caution during those late-night and early-morning hours. This is crucial stuff, folks; visibility can drop dramatically in the desert.

Furthermore, strong wind and rough sea warnings have been issued for the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Marine activities and small vessels are particularly vulnerable, with conditions potentially turning rough, even very rough. Best to stay ashore if you're in a smaller boat, trust me on this one. Dust and reduced visibility could also affect open inland areas when those winds pick up. Stay informed, and stay safe.

Looking ahead, it seems this cooler weather is sticking around. By Wednesday, things are predicted to get even more unsettled, with a further drop in temperatures and a renewed chance of light rainfall, especially in northern and coastal areas. So, keep those sweaters handy – winter in the UAE might be a bit different than you expected!
