Turkey is seeing a serious surge in electric vehicle adoption. New data reveals that the number of registered electric cars in the country has skyrocketed, exceeding 370,000 by the close of 2025. That's a whopping 102% increase compared to the previous year, signaling a major shift in Turkish transportation.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, the total number of registered cars in Turkey reached 17,373,581 last year. While EVs still represent a relatively small slice of the overall pie, their rapid growth is undeniable. We're talking about a real transformation in a market historically dominated by gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles. For context, I remember visiting Istanbul just a few years ago and barely seeing any EVs. Times are definitely changing.

What's driving this electric revolution? Several factors seem to be at play. Electric vehicles, naturally, offer lower carbon emissions, superior energy efficiency, and reduced noise pollution – benefits that are increasingly appealing to environmentally conscious consumers worldwide, and Turkey is no exception. The expanding network of charging stations across the country is another key enabler, alleviating range anxiety and making EV ownership more practical. And then there's Togg, Turkey's domestically produced electric car, which has undoubtedly captured the public's imagination and spurred further interest in EVs.

The numbers tell a compelling story. From a mere 565 registered electric cars in 2015, the figure jumped to 183,776 in 2024, then more than doubled to 370,591 by December 2025. Electric cars now account for 2.1% of all registered cars, a notable increase from 1.1% just a year earlier. It is worth noting that the data also takes into account the increase of hybrid vehicles. The number of hybrid cars registered in Turkey increased from 23 in 2011 to 697,027 in 2025. As of 2025, 4% of all cars registered in Turkey are hybrid.

Of course, this isn't just about electric cars. Hybrid vehicles are also gaining traction. Data first appeared in 2011, with 23 registered vehicles. The number of registered hybrid cars rose to 13,877 in 2019, reaching 222,328 by the end of 2023, and 391,296 in 2024. By 2025, this number had climbed to 697,027. The share of hybrid cars in the total car fleet increased from 2.4% in 2024 to 4% in 2025. The future of transportation in Turkey is looking increasingly electric, and hybrid is playing a part in it too. It's a trend worth watching closely.
