Battlefield 6: Jet Combat SOARS, Knife Attacks REVOLUTIONIZED!
Gaming News 17 January 2026

Okay, Battlefield fans, hold onto your hats. The wait for Season 2 of Battlefield 6 might sting a little – pushed back to February 17th to give the devs more time to polish things up. But, hey, good things come to those who wait, right? And, even better news, we're getting a juicy update much sooner than that. Think of it as an appetizer before the main course.

Battlefield 6: Jet Combat SOARS, Knife Attacks REV...

Electronic Arts just dropped the news that Update 1.1.3.5 is landing on Tuesday, January 20th, and it's bringing some changes that a lot of you have been clamoring for, particularly when it comes to air combat. Remember all that frustration with jets being glass cannons? Well, they're dialing that back. Get ready to feel a little less fragile in the sky, pilots, because jet cannon damage against other aerial vehicles is getting a significant reduction. We're talking about needing around 40% more hits to actually take down an enemy aircraft. That should make dogfights a whole lot more interesting, and hopefully, a bit less one-sided. Sadly, that promised air radar feature is being held back for a later date.

But it's not just about the skies. They're also tackling the ground game, specifically melee combat. Anyone who's had a frustrating knife fight where your character just refused to cooperate, this one's for you. The update is aiming to improve the "responsiveness, consistency, and sprint behavior for melee attacks, including knives and the sledgehammer." Let's face it, there's nothing worse than missing a point-blank knife attack because the game decided you didn't *really* want to stab that guy. Hopefully, these changes will make those close-quarters encounters a lot more reliable. Oh, and that pesky Assault Ladder? Apparently, it's getting some love too, so expect that to work a bit more reliably after the update.

Beyond the core gameplay tweaks, we're also seeing some attention paid to the overall stability and polish. Expect fixes for UI/HUD issues in Redsec and Multiplayer, and increased stability in Battle Royale and Gauntlet modes. It sounds like they're trying to address some of the rough edges that have been plaguing the game. Speaking of stability, they've also apparently fixed that rather… explosive… bug where vehicles would spontaneously combust when performing a takedown on someone lying on top of them. Good riddance to that one!

With Season 1 now extended, Battlefield Studios is sweetening the deal with new weekly challenges and a "Frostfire" bonus path. This path offers a hardware XP boost, a vehicle skin (always a plus), and some player-card customization items. If you're a season pass holder, you're also getting a weapon package, a career XP boost, and even more cosmetic goodies. It's basically a thank you for sticking around while they work on getting Season 2 ready. Full patch notes are available now, and the update is scheduled to drop on January 20th at 1 AM PT / 4 AM ET. So, set your alarms, and get ready to jump back into the battlefield!
