Star Wars 2026: SHOCKING Delays! What Will Happen to the Galaxy?!
Tech Product Reviews 16 January 2026

Hold onto your lightsabers, Star Wars fans! The Force is strong with upcoming content, and Lucasfilm is clearly gearing up to deliver a galaxy far, far away's worth of new stories. From the big screen to Disney+, there's a whole heap of Star Wars projects in various stages of development. Let's break down what we know about the most promising ventures on the horizon, and a couple of maybes too.

Star Wars 2026: SHOCKING Delays! What Will Happen ...

First up, and perhaps most excitingly, is *The Mandalorian & Grogu*. This surprise announcement really took everyone by storm. Forget *The Mandalorian Season 4*, it seems we're getting a full-blown movie directed by none other than Jon Favreau himself! Filming wrapped at the end of last year, making this the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019's divisive *The Rise of Skywalker*. Mark your calendars for May 22, 2026 - that's when Mando and Grogu are scheduled to hit theaters.

But the big screen isn't the only place Star Wars is expanding. An intriguing animated series focusing on Darth Maul's post-Clone Wars endeavors is also in the works. This series promises to explore Maul's rise to power as he attempts to rebuild his criminal empire under the nose of the Empire. And thank the Maker, Sam Witwer is back to voice Maul – he's absolutely perfect in the role. Keep an eye out for this one on Disney+ in 2026. Honestly, I'm a little surprised we haven't seen this concept explored more.

Speaking of animation, *Star Wars: Visions*, the anthology series showcasing diverse animation styles and storytelling, is getting a spinoff miniseries called *Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi*. If you remember the "Ninth Jedi" short from *Visions* Season 1, you'll know this is exciting. It was one of the strongest and most visually stunning entries, so continuing that story makes perfect sense.

Beyond Mando and Grogu, another theatrical release is on the horizon: *Star Wars: Starfighter*. Directed by Shawn Levy (of *Deadpool & Wolverine* fame) and rumored to star Ryan Gosling, this film is set roughly five years after *The Rise of Skywalker*, pushing the timeline further than any previous movie or show. It’s a bold move, potentially opening up completely new storytelling possibilities.

And what about *Ahsoka*? Well, after that cliffhanger of a season one finale, *Ahsoka: Season 2* is indeed happening. Production has wrapped, but a release date is still TBD. 2026 feels like a reasonable guess, especially if Lucasfilm is aiming to keep a steady stream of Star Wars content flowing.

Finally, there's the Rey Skywalker project. *Ms. Marvel*'s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing this film, which will see Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. This is a huge undertaking, and I'm really curious to see what direction they take. The sequel trilogy certainly had its detractors, so this is a chance to either redeem it or cement its legacy. No release date yet, but it's definitely one to watch. Let's just hope it can recapture the magic that made us fall in love with Star Wars in the first place.
