Resident Evil Requiem: Release Date SOON?! Gameplay LEAKED!
Gaming News 16 January 2026

The Summer Game Fest just wrapped, and one announcement in particular sent shivers down my spine (in a good way!). Capcom officially unveiled Resident Evil: Requiem, and from what I've seen, it's shaping up to be a terrifying return to form for the franchise. Forget the action-heavy detours; this looks like a genuine dive back into the survival horror that made Resident Evil a legend. So, let's break down everything we know about this exciting, and frankly, frightening new installment.

Resident Evil Requiem: Release Date SOON?! Gamepla...

Mark your calendars, folks, because Resident Evil: Requiem is slated for release on February 27, 2026. That’s a bit of a wait, I know, but hopefully, it'll be worth it. Capcom seems to be taking their time to really nail the atmosphere and scares. And speaking of getting your hands on it, Requiem will be launching on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and—wait for it—the forthcoming Switch 2. That's right, Capcom is making a definitive leap to current-gen (and next-gen Switch!) systems. Sorry, last-gen console owners, you're getting left behind on this one.

The story centers around Grace Ashcroft, who’s not just some random new face. Grace is an FBI technical analyst *and* the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. Talk about a legacy! Grace is tasked with investigating a string of grisly murders at the Wrenwood Hotel, which has a horrifying connection to her past – it’s where her mother met her untimely end. Capcom is promising "a new era of survival-horror," and they're really leaning on the power of the RE Engine to deliver the goods.

What really caught my attention is the evolution of the infected. Apparently, they're retaining fragments of their former personalities. Imagine stumbling upon an infected chef mindlessly chopping meat, or a caretaker compulsively cleaning. That's some seriously unsettling imagery. And Grace isn't helpless either. She can craft weapons by harvesting blood from the infected (yikes!), and in a real pinch, she can unleash a devastating hand cannon called Requiem. But ammo is scarce, so it's definitely a weapon of last resort.

On the other hand, Leon Kennedy is also making an appearance, and he’s channeling his Resident Evil 4 remake energy. Think survival-action hero: fast, deadly, and always ready with a quick one-liner before he blows a zombie’s head off. It'll be interesting to see how these two different playstyles converge. To cater to all players, Requiem will offer multiple difficulty modes, from a story-focused Casual mode with gameplay assists to a more challenging Standard mode. Plus, you'll have the option to switch between first-person and third-person camera angles, letting you experience the horror from your preferred perspective. Smart move, Capcom!

Finally, for all you collectors out there, there will be several editions of Resident Evil: Requiem available. Pre-ordering any version (physical or digital) will net you an exclusive in-game costume for Grace called Apocalypse. And for those of you planning to pick it up on the Switch 2, there's a Resident Evil Generation Pack that includes Requiem, Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Gold Edition. That's a whole lot of Resident Evil goodness in one package!
