Makgeolli Mania! Jipyeong Brewery's Sales Forecast SHOCKS Experts!
Current Affairs 16 January 2026

Jipyeong Brewery, the name practically synonymous with South Korean makgeolli these days, is riding high. Forget flash-in-the-pan trends; this traditional rice wine producer is predicting record sales in 2025. And frankly, it's not hard to see why. The stuff is good, and more importantly, consistently so. I’ve tried a fair few makgeollis in my time, and Jipyeong’s always been a reliable go-to.

Makgeolli Mania! Jipyeong Brewery's Sales Forecast...

The company announced Friday that it's on track to extend its run of record annual revenue for the *sixteenth* consecutive year. Think about that for a moment. Sixteen years of growth, starting from a relatively modest 200 million won ($135,740) back in 2010. In a market as fickle as the liquor industry, especially in South Korea where new soju flavors seem to pop up every other week, that kind of sustained success is seriously impressive.

Last year, in 2024, Jipyeong pulled in a cool 46.9 billion won in sales, with an operating profit of 3.7 billion won. That's not just a one-hit wonder; the company has consistently maintained operating profits between 3.6 billion won and 7 billion won for the past five years. They're not just selling a lot; they're doing it profitably, which speaks volumes about their business model.

So, what’s the secret sauce? According to Jipyeong, it’s all about "structural competitiveness" in ingredients, quality, and logistics. In other words, they're focusing on the fundamentals, not chasing fleeting trends. Smart move. They also highlighted their expansion into overseas markets as a key driver of growth, and it's clearly paying off. Seeing makgeolli gaining traction globally is pretty cool, and Jipyeong is definitely leading the charge.

Currently, Jipyeong is exporting to 15 countries, with exports increasing more than fivefold last year compared to the previous year. Fivefold! That’s not just a good year; that’s explosive growth. What started as a small brewery in Jipyeong village, nestled in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, is now a serious player on the international stage. They’ve even scaled up production by establishing breweries in Gangwon Province and South Chungcheong Province, including that impressive Cheonan manufacturing plant pictured above.

"By using domestic rice, we’ll build up global competitiveness to become the most reputable and marketable traditional liquor," a Jipyeong official stated. It's a simple strategy, but a sound one. Quality ingredients, consistent production, and a focus on expanding their reach. It seems like Jipyeong Brewery is well on its way to becoming a household name, not just in Korea, but around the world. Cheers to that!
