Top-Ranked UConn Gets 34th Consecutive Win In 99-50 Blowout vs. Villanova

Storrs, CT – The UConn Huskies women's basketball team continued their dominant run, dismantling Villanova 99-50 on Thursday night and extending their winning streak to an impressive 34 games. The atmosphere in Gampel Pavilion was electric, as fans came to witness not only another likely victory, but also a celebration of past greatness. And UConn didn't disappoint.

UConn DOMINATES! 34th Win Leaves Villanova STUNNED...

Sarah Strong was the star of the show, putting up a dominant performance with 24 points, nine rebounds, and a whopping five blocks. She was simply unstoppable. Azzi Fudd contributed a solid 14 points, showcasing her consistent scoring ability. KK Arnold had a standout game as well, matching her season high with 13 points, while also dishing out seven assists and grabbing four steals. Blanca Quinonez rounded out the double-digit scorers for UConn (18-0, 9-0 Big East) with 13 points, helping the Huskies secure their 47th consecutive regular-season league victory. It's a run of dominance that's truly remarkable.

Villanova (14-4, 7-2) simply couldn't keep up. Freshman Kennedy Henry led the Wildcats with 12 points, managing to knock down three of their eight 3-pointers. Brynn McCurry added 11 points, but the team struggled mightily from the field, shooting a season-low 27.7%. Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova's leading scorer, was held to just eight points, all of which came in the first half. UConn's defense was stifling, plain and simple.

Early in the game, Strong, Fudd, and Quinonez went on a tear, combining for eight consecutive baskets and pushing the Huskies to a commanding 38-13 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the first half. Villanova tried to respond with consecutive 3-pointers from Ryanne Allen and Henry, managing to score the next 10 points. However, UConn quickly regained control and maintained a comfortable 45-27 advantage heading into halftime.

The game also served as a homecoming and celebration. Prior to tip-off, the legendary 2014-15 and 2015-16 UConn teams, who captured the program's 10th and 11th national titles, were rightfully inducted into the Huskies of Honor. Seeing those championship teams recognized was a special moment for the program and its fans. The 2014-15 squad, remember, only lost one game all season. And the 2015-16 Huskies? A perfect 38-0, led by Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson, and Morgan Tuck – a senior class that defined dominance.

Despite the lopsided victory, UConn is still dealing with some injuries. Jana El Alfy, Morgan Cheli, and Ice Brady remain sidelined. Coach Geno Auriemma stated that there is no set return date for Cheli and Brady, although he did mention that El Alfy is nearing her return. Even with key players out, UConn continues to roll, showcasing the program's incredible depth and talent. They're a force to be reckoned with, no doubt about it.
