Game of Thrones Reunion! Sophie & Kit's Horror Trailer Will Haunt You!
Gaming News 16 January 2026

Well, folks, winter is coming… again. But this time, instead of White Walkers, we’re getting something a little different: a Gothic horror flick starring two familiar faces from Westeros. Lionsgate just dropped the trailer for "The Dreadful," and it’s a delightfully creepy reunion for Sophie Turner and Kit Harington. And I, for one, am completely here for it.

Turner, fresh off swinging those dual pistols as Lara Croft (a role I'm genuinely excited to see her tackle), plays Anne, a woman in medieval England trying to eke out a life with her… shall we say, *intense* mother-in-law, played by the always-amazing Marcia Gay Harden. Harington steps in as a soldier from Anne's past, stirring up trouble and presumably some long-buried feelings. Let's be honest, even in the darkest corners of Westeros, these two had undeniable chemistry. I'm keen to see that translated into a different, equally unsettling setting.

The trailer definitely sets a mood. Think windswept landscapes, flickering candlelight, and a general sense of impending doom. A synopsis hints at a brewing curse, a mysterious knight (because what's a Gothic horror without one?), and the potential for complete and utter destruction. You know, the usual Tuesday for a medieval protagonist. Lionsgate says, "Set in medieval England, Anne and her domineering mother-in-law Morwen struggle to survive on the outskirts of society. But when a man from Anne’s past returns from war, a curse begins to take shape through a mysterious knight and threatens to destroy them all." Sounds ominous, right?

Interestingly, whispers are circulating about potential inspiration from a much older, and highly regarded, source. The plot bears a noticeable resemblance to Akira Kurosawa's "Onibaba," a 1964 Japanese horror masterpiece. I actually remember reading years ago that Willem Dafoe, a huge fan of "Onibaba," held the remake rights at one point but ultimately decided against it, citing the film's unique and irreplaceable quality. It'll be interesting to see if "The Dreadful" pays direct homage or simply draws thematic parallels. Either way, "Onibaba" is a high bar to clear.

"The Dreadful" comes from the mind of writer-director Natasha Kermani, a name you might recognize from her work on "Lucky," "Abraham’s Boys," and a segment in "V/H/S/85." She seems to have a knack for crafting unsettling narratives, so I'm optimistic about what she'll bring to this project. Mark your calendars, horror fans! "The Dreadful" is hitting theaters on February 20th. I, for one, will be there, popcorn in hand, ready to be properly spooked by the King and Queen of the North… or at least, actors who played them.
