Fallout Episode 5: 2 HUGE Bombshells Change EVERYTHING! What Happens Next?!
Gaming News 15 January 2026

Ring-a-ding-ding! Another week, another episode of *Fallout* lands on Prime Video. Last week’s installment saw our unlikely duo, Lucy (Ella Purnell) and Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), finally reaching the bright lights of the New Vegas Strip. Their initial optimism about finding Lucy’s father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan), was quickly shattered by a terrifying encounter with a Deathclaw, a creature that truly embodies the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Fallout Episode 5: 2 HUGE Bombshells Change EVERYT...

Meanwhile, back in the comparatively "safe" confines of Vault 31, Norm (Moisés Arias) continues his unsettling investigation, teaming up with the junior Vault-Tec executives to unravel the mysteries of the Los Angeles wasteland and, presumably, find Vault-Tec headquarters. But enough about the vaults for now, let’s dive into the carnage and revelations of this week’s Mojave Wasteland adventure.

The episode wastes no time, picking up right where we left off with Lucy and Cooper facing not one, but *three* Deathclaws on the Strip. Panic ensues, as it should! Cooper, ever the pragmatist, realizes brute force isn't an option and suggests a hasty retreat. In a tense moment of hiding, Lucy, ever the optimist, asks Cooper what weapon would be best to take them down. Cooper, knowing nothing will truly suffice, uses a well-placed sack of grenades as a diversion, drawing the Deathclaws' attention and buying them time to escape into Freeside, the gritty but vibrant neighborhood just outside the glittering facade of the Strip.

It's in Freeside, amidst the chaos and colorful characters, that Cooper finally lays bare his true motivations to Lucy. He reveals that his wife, Barbara (Frances Turner), and daughter, Janey, were placed in cryosleep in Vault-Tec vaults reserved for upper management. He’s been hunting for them ever since, discovering two such vaults in Oregon and California, only to find them empty. He believes finding Hank is the key to unlocking the location of the Mojave vault where his family might be held. It's a powerful moment that adds layers to Cooper's already complex character.

With Lucy still grappling with the effects of a Buffout addiction, Cooper suggests she seek out Addictol at the local general store. This gives him a chance to retreat to a nearby bar, likely to contemplate the long, winding road he’s traveled and the person he’s become since losing his family. It's a brief respite before the storm, and you know something big is coming next.

And big it is. A flashback sequence transports us back to the pre-war days, showing Cooper, Barbara, and Hank at the airport just before the bombs fell. Hank is entrusted by Vault-Tec with the task of escorting them to Vegas and delivering a mysterious briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. But here's where things get really interesting. Cooper briefly leaves them to make a call to Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) from a payphone. Moldaver offers Cooper poison to assassinate Robert House (Rafi Silver), the enigmatic owner of RobCo, but Cooper insists he can secure Cold Fusion without resorting to murder. The scene really underscores the moral compromises and political machinations at play behind the scenes. I personally thought this was a great way to add depth to Cooper's backstory and hint at his connection to the larger plot. It's fascinating to see how these pre-war decisions continue to shape the post-apocalyptic world.

The flashback continues, showing the trio arriving in a thriving Vegas, complete with protests against RobCo industries and the all-powerful Robert House. Tensions flare when security aggressively removes a protester, and Cooper rushes to her aid. The woman, a local congresswoman, recognizes Cooper and thanks him for his kindness. This small act of compassion hints at the man Cooper once was, a stark contrast to the hardened Ghoul we see in the present. It's these moments that really make the series shine, exploring the nuances of human nature in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

But what happens next? Well, you'll have to tune in to find out! (Or head over to GameSpot for the full breakdown, courtesy of Reyna Cervantes on January 14, 2026 at 7:15 PM PST.)
