Hytale Runs DOOM?! Gamers Stunned By Pre-Release Feat!
Tech Product Reviews 12 January 2026

It's a well-known internet adage: "Doom will run on anything." And honestly, they aren't kidding. We've seen id Software's seminal 1993 shooter squeezed onto everything from pregnancy tests to LEGO bricks. The latest unlikely platform? Hytale, the highly anticipated (and soon-to-be-released, again) sandbox game that hasn't even officially launched yet.

Hytale Runs DOOM?! Gamers Stunned By Pre-Release F...

Yep, you read that right. Some clever modder—the internet is truly a magical place—has managed to get Doom running *inside* Hytale. The implications are, well, hilariously awesome. It's like the gaming equivalent of Inception, a game within a game. I’m picturing a Hytale avatar, carefully crafting a blocky sword, only to suddenly drop everything and frag some demons in a pixelated rendition of E1M1.

Hytale itself is a story of resilience, to say the least. Remember back in 2018 when Hypixel, the team behind that incredibly popular Minecraft server, announced it? The hype was real. Riot Games swooped in to acquire the studio, and things looked incredibly promising. Then...radio silence, delays, and eventually, the crushing news: cancellation in June 2025. It felt like a gut punch to the gaming community. I remember thinking, "Oh man, another one bites the dust."

But wait! This isn't your typical development sob story. Against all odds, Hypixel's founder, Simon Collins-Laflamme, managed to regain the IP rights. Cue the Rocky theme, because Hytale is back, baby! And it's scheduled to drop in early access tomorrow. Collins-Laflamme is even anticipating over a million players on launch day, urging fans to download the launcher ASAP to avoid the inevitable server overload. Talk about a comeback!

Collins-Laflamme hasn't been shy about the state of the game when he rescued it. "It’s a damn miracle we were able to salvage Hytale," he said. "It was barely playable...Everything, everything was wrong." He described a herculean effort to whip the game back into shape, driven by a potent mix of anger and determination. And now, thanks to those efforts, and the ingenuity of modders, we're not only getting Hytale, but apparently, we're getting Doom along for the ride. So buckle up, folks. It's gonna be a wild week.
