Baldur's Gate 3 SHOCK: No Switch 2?! Fans Devastated!
Gaming News 12 January 2026

Baldur's Gate 3, the RPG that basically redefined the genre last year, has been a hot topic not just for its gameplay, but for its availability. We've seen it run surprisingly well on the Steam Deck, and naturally, the rumors surrounding a Switch 2 port have been swirling since Nintendo announced their new console. I mean, Larian's *Divinity Original Sin II* made the jump, so why not BG3, right?

Baldur's Gate 3 SHOCK: No Switch 2?! Fans Devastat...

Well, buckle up, because it looks like that dream might be dashed. Despite the fervent hopes of Switch-loving D&D fans, it seems increasingly unlikely that we'll be seeing Baldur's Gate 3 grace Nintendo's upcoming hardware. And the reason is a bit more complicated than just "it's too big to run."

During a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on the r/Games subreddit, Larian Studios opened the floor for questions. When a user, u/darkwai, straight-up asked about a Switch 2 version – "Is it even possible?" – Larian's game director, Swen Vincke, dropped a bit of a bomb. "We would have loved to but it wasn't our decision to make," he replied.

That statement, folks, is pretty loaded. It doesn't say "the hardware can't handle it." It doesn't say "we're too busy." It points to something… else. The prevailing theory, and it's a pretty convincing one, is that it has to do with Larian's relationship with Wizards of the Coast, the overlords of the Dungeons & Dragons IP. Remember how Larian, fresh off the monumental success of BG3, decided to *scrap* their DLC plans and effectively end their partnership with WotC? They're going back to being their own independent entity. That's a big deal.

While Larian clearly still cares about Baldur's Gate 3 – they're continuing to provide support and updates – they don't own the *entire* pie. Wizards of the Coast has a significant stake, and that could be creating roadblocks when it comes to porting the game to other platforms. It's speculation, sure, but it's speculation based on what we know about the industry and the sometimes-tense relationships between developers and publishers. So, while we can all keep our fingers crossed, the outlook for a Switch 2 version of Baldur's Gate 3 is looking pretty bleak. It's a real shame, honestly. Imagine playing that masterpiece on the go!

On a brighter note, Larian is working on something new, currently codenamed *Divinity*. And if you're still hungry for Baldur's Gate 3 goodness, be sure to check out the details on its final major update. It's a fantastic game, and it definitely earned its spot on our list of the best games of 2023.
