Hytale fans, brace yourselves. The long-awaited early access release is just around the corner, and the developer is expecting a stampede. Simon Collins-Laflamme, the driving force behind the Minecraft-inspired sandbox game, is anticipating over a million players to descend upon the PC launch tomorrow, January 13th.
Hytale Early Access: Million+ Players Expected! Se...
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Collins-Laflamme urged eager fans to download the launcher today, January 12th, and log in early. His reasoning? To "help us significantly reduce launch-day stress." Wise words, considering the potential server strain a million players could inflict! It's a smart move, trying to spread out the load and avoid a complete system meltdown. Anyone who's tried to play a popular game on launch day knows the pain of endless queues and frustrating errors.
The road to this early access release has been anything but smooth. Remember Riot Games' acquisition back in 2020? Well, that's been reversed. In a somewhat surprising move last November, Riot handed the Hytale rights back to Collins-Laflamme. Riot explained the decision, saying it offered "players the best chance to one day experience a revised version of the game they've been waiting for." Intriguing, to say the least. It seems like Riot recognized that the original vision for Hytale was getting lost somewhere along the way.
The hype surrounding Hytale has been building for years. The initial announcement in December 2018, accompanied by a trailer that's racked up over 61 million views on YouTube, sent the gaming community into a frenzy. And with good reason. The developers, also the co-founders of the massively popular Minecraft server Hypixel, clearly know what they're doing. The initial investment from Riot only fueled the anticipation, but now Hytale is back in the hands of its original creator, ready to forge its own path.
"Hytale and Hypixel Studios are independent again, and we are returning to the original vision from the 2018 trailer," Collins-Laflamme stated. He also admitted that going back to an older build means some parts of the game might feel "behind." However, he emphasized that modding and creative tools will be available from day one, calling it a "good moment for modders, server owners, and creators to step in early!"
But let's be clear: this is early access. Collins-Laflamme himself cautioned potential players, "If you don’t feel comfortable pre-ordering, please don’t." He emphasized that the game is "very much unfinished and will be buggy for a while." It's a refreshing dose of honesty in an industry often fueled by over-promising and under-delivering. He concluded with a sentiment that many gamers will likely appreciate: "The first impression will be rough, but the path ahead matters more." Time will tell if Hytale can live up to the years of anticipation. But one thing is for sure: tomorrow's launch will be a spectacle to behold.
