Assassin's Creed Dev Reveals Shocking Future of Gaming!

The AAA gaming world might be on the verge of a shake-up, if former Assassin's Creed director Alexandre Amancio has anything to say about it. Amancio, who helmed the creation of some pretty iconic titles, is making a compelling argument for downsizing, suggesting that the future of innovative game design actually lies in *smaller* teams.

He's not just talking hypothetically, either. Amancio believes the current model of throwing massive teams at complex problems is ultimately unsustainable and stifles creativity. His core point? Once a team balloons past the 100-person mark, things get... complicated. "There's this theory that says that whenever humans create something that surpasses a hundred people, it completely changes the dynamic of it," Amancio explained. "As soon as you surpass that, the ratio of management to people working on the game explodes. You start having a very management-heavy structure: You need to have people to coordinate the people coordinating." Think of it like this: more chefs in the kitchen doesn't always mean a better meal, sometimes it just means a lot more arguments and less focus.

Amancio draws an interesting comparison to the film industry. Films, by their nature, have a relatively fixed script and timeline. They assemble core teams, often bringing in specialized talent for specific scenes or tasks. He argues the gaming industry, often treating itself as software development, is in reality a "weird hybrid." Game development is inherently iterative and fluid, unlike a static screenplay. Imagine constantly rewriting the script *during* filming, that's closer to the AAA game development experience.

So, what's his solution? Amancio envisions a future where core Game development teams, lean and agile, are supplemented by outsourcing or co-development partnerships for specific needs. "I think the future lies in taking that learning from the film industry, where you have core teams that are complimented with either outsourcing or with co-dev for specific needs. You get the right crew for the right project at the right time," he stated. It's an intriguing idea, and certainly worth considering given the rising budgets and development times we're seeing in the industry.

On a slightly related note, speaking of Assassin's Creed, Netflix is still chugging along with their adaptation. The streaming giant recently announced two new cast members, though, frustratingly, their roles are still under wraps. I, for one, am cautiously optimistic. Let’s just hope they stick closer to the lore than some other video game adaptations we’ve seen... *cough cough*.
