The Costa del Sol is about to get even more walkable, folks! Malaga Provincial Council just greenlit a hefty sum – over €300,000 to be exact – for a crucial new section of the Senda Litoral, the coastal path that’s slowly but surely stitching together the entire Malaga coastline. This particular piece of the puzzle lands in Benalmadena, and it's going to make a real difference to how locals and tourists alike experience the beloved Playa de Carvajal.
Benalmadena's Coastal Walkway: Is it FINALLY Compl...
Now, for those who aren’t familiar, the Senda Litoral is more than just a nice walk; it's an ambitious project to create a continuous path spanning the entire Malaga province coastline. Think of it as a coastal highway, but for pedestrians and cyclists. And this funding is earmarked for a 435-metre stretch that hugs the coast from the western edge of the popular chiringuito Kalifato (anyone who's been knows it's a landmark!) all the way to the end of that stepped ramp near the Carvajal lighthouse. It's a key connection point.
What's so great about this particular project? Well, it's not just about creating a new path; it's about upgrading what's already there. The existing dirt path, which, let’s be honest, can be a bit rough underfoot, is getting some much-needed TLC. We're talking about repairing over 1,500 square metres – important not just for walkers, but also for emergency vehicles and those essential beach cleaning trucks that keep our beaches pristine. Plus, they're sprucing up the stepped ramp and reinforcing the rock revetment, that protective barrier against the sea's relentless power. And, 326 metres of wooden fencing will be repaired, keeping things safe and picturesque.
This isn't just a cosmetic upgrade, though. It’s about making the coastline more accessible and sustainable. The council understands the importance of preserving the natural beauty of the area while also making it easier for everyone to enjoy it. And the fact that the funding is a direct grant to Benalmadena Council means they can get started on contracting the work pronto. No messing around with endless bureaucratic hurdles, which is always a win in my book.
So, keep an eye out for construction crews in the coming weeks. Soon enough, you’ll be able to stroll along a smoother, safer, and even more beautiful section of the Costa del Sol coastline. This addition will further solidify the path's mission of connecting residents and holidaymakers to this iconic coastal corridor, offering stunning sea views and promoting sustainable mobility along the Costa del Sol. It’s another step towards completing that grand vision of a continuous coastal path, and I, for one, can’t wait to see it finished. Now, if only they'd put a few more benches along the way...
