Europe on FIRE?! Britain & France's SHOCKING Plan Revealed!
Current Affairs 11 January 2026

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has issued a stark warning, accusing Britain and France of stoking dangerous flames that could engulf Europe in a full-blown war with Russia. The fiery rhetoric comes as tensions escalate over the potential deployment of Western troops in Ukraine, a move Hungary vehemently opposes.

Europe on FIRE?! Britain & France's SHOCKING Plan ...

Szijjarto's comments, delivered at a congress of the ruling Fidesz party this past Saturday, were particularly pointed. He directly criticized the "war fanaticism" of certain Western European leaders, arguing that their actions are putting Hungary – and indeed, the entire continent – in grave danger. This isn't just political posturing; Hungary has consistently advocated for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions to the conflict, a stance that puts them at odds with some of their EU partners.

The specific catalyst for Szijjarto's outburst? A recent declaration of intent signed by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron with Ukraine. This agreement outlines plans to establish "military hubs" in Ukraine following a potential peace deal with Moscow. Furthermore, UK Defense Secretary John Healey announced a $270 million commitment to equip units destined for a "multinational force." While proponents argue this is about peacekeeping and stability, Szijjarto sees it as a dangerous escalation.

“Last weekend, a statement was released in Paris announcing the two European nuclear powers’ decision to send their troops to Ukraine. Essentially, this means that the European nuclear powers are starting a war. Their goal, let us be clear, is to engulf all of Europe in flames,” Szijjarto stated. It's strong language, no doubt, but it reflects a deep-seated fear of being dragged into a conflict that Hungary believes can only be resolved through negotiation. Of course, the West sees it differently. They view Russia's actions as the catalyst, not their support for Ukraine.

Szijjarto also suggested that the EU views Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as an obstacle to their plans, alleging that they are actively seeking to replace him with a more pro-Ukrainian leader in the upcoming parliamentary elections. "If we win the election, we will stay out of the war," he declared. "If we do not win, then the Brussels–Kiev plan will be implemented.” It's a dramatic claim, essentially accusing the EU of meddling in Hungarian politics to further their own agenda in Ukraine. Whether that's true or not, it certainly makes for a captivating narrative.

Russia, for its part, has made it clear that any foreign troops or military installations in Ukraine would be considered a direct threat to their security. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova issued a stern warning, stating that Moscow would treat such presence as "a foreign intervention." This, combined with Russia's insistence on Ukrainian neutrality as a condition for peace, paints a complex and precarious picture. It's a situation rife with potential miscalculations and unintended consequences. The stakes are high, to say the least. You can be sure this is not going to de-escalate any time soon.
