LG Innotek's SHOCKING CES 2026 Reveal: The End of Parts?!
Current Affairs 11 January 2026

LAS VEGAS – The annual Consumer Electronics Show is always a whirlwind of new gadgets and ambitious promises, but sometimes the real story lies in the quieter shifts happening behind the scenes. This year at CES 2026, that story seems to be coming from LG Innotek. Forget just being a parts supplier; they're aiming to be a solutions powerhouse. That's the message CEO Moon Hyuk-soo delivered loud and clear on Wednesday.

LG Innotek's SHOCKING CES 2026 Reveal: The End of ...

"LG Innotek is no longer a parts company," Moon declared during a press briefing. It's a bold statement, but one backed by a clearly defined strategy. The company is reorganizing its business structure to focus on what Moon calls a "high-value, high-profit 'high performance portfolio'." In essence, they're aiming for the top tier of tech solutions.

The pivot hinges on three core technological areas: sensing, substrates, and control. Initially developed for the consumer electronics market, these technologies are now finding homes in everything from automotive to robotics, drones, and even satellites. Think of it this way: they're not just making the individual pieces; they're crafting the entire puzzle.

Control technologies, for example, aren't just about individual components. They encompass the systems managing electricity flow in electric vehicles, as well as motor and steering units. Crucially, LG Innotek is now integrating hardware with software and middleware, providing ready-to-use solutions. This is a significant departure from simply supplying parts based on customer specifications, which, as Moon pointed out, "is losing competitiveness." Back in December, they even restructured their divisions to reflect this, rebranding units as Optics Solution, Package Solution, and Mobility Solution.

At CES 2026, the company showcased system-level solutions – complete, integrated systems – rather than individual standalone products. For autonomous vehicles, they highlighted their ability to supply up to sixteen integrated products. And for electric vehicles, they demonstrated control technologies that utilize wireless solutions to reduce those incredibly heavy wiring harnesses. I remember years ago, the sheer volume of wires in cars was mind-boggling. Imagine the efficiency gains from shrinking that down!

"Reducing harnesses makes vehicles lighter and frees up space," Moon explained. "That can improve efficiency and allow for larger batteries." This points to a future of more efficient, longer-range EVs, and it’s LG Innotek that's providing the underlying technology.

The package solution business is currently the company's most profitable segment, with a significant investment planned to increase capacity. Apparently, utilization rates are nearly full, and these solutions already contribute over 20% of LG Innotek’s operating profit. It seems their bet on package solutions is paying off handsomely.

Robotics is another emerging growth area. LG Innotek is supplying critical components, including sensing modules, control solutions, and substrates, for service robots and industrial automation systems, with revenue already reaching hundreds of billions of won. They've even partnered with Boston Dynamics to develop vision sensing systems for robots, demonstrating their commitment to becoming a major player in the robotics revolution. It's a smart move, capitalizing on their existing expertise to enter a booming market.
