Baldur's Gate 3 on Switch 2? Shocking Twist Revealed!
Tech Product Reviews 09 January 2026

It's always a bit of a gut punch when a beloved game skips your favorite console. Baldur's Gate 3, the critically acclaimed RPG that basically redefined the genre, is one of those games for Nintendo fans. While Larian Studios, the masterminds behind it, have shown Nintendo some love with Divinity: Original Sin 2, Baldur's Gate 3 has remained conspicuously absent. Now, we're getting a clearer picture of why.

Baldur's Gate 3 on Switch 2? Shocking Twist Reveal...

Last month saw a surprise update to Divinity: Original Sin 2, bringing an upgraded version to PS5, Xbox Series, and…wait for it…Nintendo Switch 2. Yes, *that* Switch 2. But that just begs the question even more: if they can do *that*, why no Baldur's Gate 3? After all, Original Sin 2 has been happily running on Nintendo hardware for years. So, what gives?

According to Larian themselves, it wasn't their decision. In a recent statement, CEO Swen Vincke hinted that Larian would have been on board with bringing Baldur's Gate 3 to the Switch. His words imply a willingness, even an eagerness, to make it happen. Think about it – a game as expansive and immersive as Baldur's Gate 3 on a portable console? Dreamy.

Of course, Vincke speaks in the past tense. Let's not forget that Larian has officially moved on from Baldur's Gate 3. They're still providing minor bug fixes, sure, but a full-blown port to a new platform? Unlikely, especially with their next big project, a new Divinity game, already in the works. This is where things get interesting, because ultimately, Wizards of the Coast, the owners of the Dungeons & Dragons IP, controls the destiny of Baldur's Gate 3.

Essentially, that means any port requires *their* blessing. Vincke's comments strongly suggest Larian was ready and willing, but Wizards of the Coast, for reasons currently unknown, apparently vetoed the idea. We've reached out to Wizards of the Coast for comment, and we'll update this article if we hear back. It's all a bit frustrating, isn't it?

It’s a real shame for Switch owners. As you might remember, we absolutely adored Baldur's Gate 3, awarding it a perfect 10/10 at launch. We raved about its "crunchy, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity," declaring it "the new high-water mark for CRPGs." I still stand by that, by the way. It's a masterpiece. Hopefully, one day, Switch players will get to experience it for themselves. Until then, well, there's always Divinity: Original Sin 2!
