Baldur's Gate 3: Wyll's Fate Revealed! Writer's Regret Shocks Fans!
Gaming News 09 January 2026

Baldur's Gate 3 has been a runaway success, no question about it. Larian Studios hasn't been resting on its laurels either, constantly pumping out new content and updates to keep players engaged. But despite all the love poured into the game, one character still feels a little…underdone: Wyll, the Blade of Frontiers. And it seems the writers at Larian feel it too.

Baldur's Gate 3: Wyll's Fate Revealed! Writer's Re...

During a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session today with several Larian employees, this very issue was brought to light. A fan asked why Wyll hadn't seen the same level of post-launch development as other companions, especially considering the known rewrites he underwent between the early access and final game versions. We all know Wyll’s story changed quite a bit, and it’s fair to wonder why more wasn’t done to flesh him out further.

Senior Writer Kevin VanOrd responded, and his answer was surprisingly candid. He expressed his own wish that Wyll had received more love and attention. Now, here’s the kicker: VanOrd attributed the character's relative lack of additional content to "a series of unfortunate timing coincidences." In other words, it wasn't a conscious decision to sideline Wyll; things just…didn't line up. It's the kind of explanation that, as a journalist, I can understand. Game development is a chaotic beast, and sometimes things fall through the cracks. I've seen it happen firsthand on smaller projects, so I can only imagine the complexities of a game as massive as Baldur's Gate 3.

While this explanation might not be exactly what Wyll fans were hoping to hear, it does offer some comfort. At least he wasn't intentionally neglected! It suggests that the team recognizes the character's potential and that perhaps, just perhaps, there's still a chance for Wyll to get the more fulfilling arc many players (and apparently some of the writers) believe he deserves. We’ll have to wait and see what Larian has planned, but for now, Wyll fans can hold onto the hope that their favorite warlock might get his due in a future update or expansion. After all, in the world of Baldur's Gate, anything is possible.
