Hollywood's revolving door continues to spin, this time landing Jillian Kay at Scott Free Productions as their new Senior Vice President of Film Production. Kay, a seasoned executive with a solid track record, will be reporting directly to Film President Michael Pruss, a move that signals a strengthening of Scott Free's film division as they gear up for what looks to be a very busy couple of years.
Scott Free's SHOCK Move: New Film Production Boss ...
Kay comes to Scott Free fresh off a stint as Head of Film at Sugar23, where she oversaw production of Michael Keaton's "Knox Goes Away" – a film that, judging from the trailers, looks like a real return to form for Keaton. More importantly, at least for Scott Free's purposes, she also managed a diverse slate of projects, including some fairly substantial studio deals like "Spy House" at Universal, starring Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen. That project alone demonstrates her ability to navigate big-budget productions and wrangle A-list talent.
“Joining Scott Free, with its legendary history of filmmaking, is a dream come true,” Kay said in a statement. It's the kind of boilerplate quote you'd expect, but honestly, who wouldn't be thrilled to join a production company with Ridley Scott's name on it? She added, "In a time of significant industry shifts, Scott Free remains a prolific force, and I'm excited to collaborate with Ridley, Justin, Mike, and the team to continue its remarkable legacy."
And "prolific force" is right. Before her time at Sugar23, Kay was a film executive at MRC, contributing to some seriously impressive projects. We're talking Edgar Wright’s "Baby Driver," Peter Jackson’s "Mortal Engines," and even had a hand in Rian Johnson’s "Knives Out" and Stephen King’s "Dark Tower." That's a range that speaks to her adaptability and eye for quality – or at least, an eye for projects with potential.
Michael Pruss seems equally pleased with the acquisition. "We are delighted to welcome Jillian to the Scott Free Film Team," he said. "Her impressive track record as both an executive and a producer, along with her strong industry relationships, speak for themselves. Jillian's arrival positions us perfectly for a very busy year ahead." It’s safe to say Pruss isn't just paying lip service; Kay's connections are undoubtedly valuable in this industry.
Scott Free's film division is currently riding a wave of success, buoyed by last year's "Echo Valley" (Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney? Yes, please), and Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, "The Chronology of Water." With "Trap House" also in the pipeline, and Kay now on board, it looks like Scott Free is strategically positioned to capitalize on the ever-changing landscape of film and streaming. Keep an eye on them – and on Jillian Kay. She seems like she's going places.
