The word on the street (or should I say, emanating from the digital halls of Ubisoft) is that *The Division 3* is coming, and it's shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with. That's according to Julian Gerighty himself, the Executive Producer overseeing the entire franchise. He recently dropped some hints that have fans buzzing.
Division 3: Series Producer Promises "Monster" Gam...
Gerighty, speaking at the New Game+ Showcase, didn't mince words. "The Division 3 is in production, right? This is not a secret; it's been announced," he confirmed. But then came the kicker: "It’s shaping up to be a monster." Now, I’ve heard that kind of hyperbole before, but coming from the guy at the top? It definitely piques my interest. It implies a significant leap forward, something beyond just a standard sequel.
Ubisoft officially gave the green light to *The Division 3* back in 2023. It's no secret that the first game had a massive impact, setting a benchmark for the looter-shooter genre. Gerighty seems to understand that legacy, adding, "Within these walls at Massive, we are working extremely hard on something that I think will have as big an impact as *Division 1* was." That’s a bold statement, considering the first game practically redefined the post-apocalyptic, online RPG experience for many of us. Can they really recapture that magic? Time will tell, of course.
Of course, the big question on everyone's minds is: when can we expect to get our hands on this "monster?" Unfortunately, a release date is still shrouded in mystery. Massive Entertainment did have to squash some rumors a while back about Gerighty leaving Ubisoft, so at least we know he's still at the helm. It's also reassuring to see that he's juggling multiple projects within *The Division* universe, contributing to *The Division 2: Survivors* and *The Division: Resurgence* for mobile. Shows commitment to the entire IP, in my opinion.
It's hard to believe that this year marks the tenth anniversary of *The Division* franchise! It feels like just yesterday we were all scrambling through the snowy streets of Manhattan. This milestone, coupled with Gerighty’s comments, definitely has me feeling nostalgic...and optimistic about the future. We need more games that aren't afraid to try new things, and it sounds like Ubisoft may be taking some risks with *The Division 3*. I, for one, am eager to see what they come up with.
The New Game+ Showcase wasn't *just* about The Division, naturally. Microsoft and Obsidian Entertainment’s *Avowed* is also hitting PS5 on February 17th, which is exciting news for PlayStation players. But let's be honest, *The Division 3* announcement has definitely stolen some of the spotlight. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some agents to level up in *The Division 2* while we wait for more news!
