Witcher 3 Expansion: SHOCKING New Location REVEALED! What Will Happen?!
Gaming News 08 January 2026

The Witcher 3, a game that seemingly refuses to fade into the mists of gaming history, is back in the news again. And this time, it's not just whispers of a remaster (again!). The rumor mill is churning with the possibility of a brand-new expansion, potentially arriving as late as 2026. Is it just wishful thinking, or could CD Projekt Red be planning a grand return to the Continent?

Witcher 3 Expansion: SHOCKING New Location REVEALE...

Last week, we delved into the initial sparks of this rumor, fueled by comments from Borys Nieśpielak, a name that carries some weight in Polish gaming circles. Now, adding fuel to the fire is a Noble Securities analyst. The speculation centers around a region long desired by fans: Zerrikania. For those unfamiliar, Zerrikania is a vast, largely unexplored (at least in the games) human realm situated east of the familiar territories of the Northern Kingdoms and the sprawling Nilfgaardian Empire. Think faraway lands, exotic cultures, and, potentially, a whole heap of new monsters to slay.

What makes Zerrikania so appealing? Well, it’s referenced in Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher novels, and that alone carries significant weight with lore-hungry fans. Imagine exploring two expansive and distinct forests: one nestled deep within a canyon and another sprawling across the foothills of the formidable Fiery Mountains. The possibilities for open-world exploration and quests are pretty darn enticing. And the existing game has dropped hints! Remember Letho? If you don’t invite him to Kaer Morhen at the end of "Ghosts of the Past," he mentions fleeing to Zerrikania. Then there's the Zerrikanian clothing available in the free "alternative look for Ciri" DLC. Are these just easter eggs, or breadcrumbs leading to a much larger adventure? It's hard not to get a little excited.

CD Projekt Red, of course, remains tight-lipped. Their last major release was Cyberpunk 2077's "Phantom Liberty" expansion in late 2023. While Cyberpunk had a notoriously bumpy launch, it's worth noting that it actually launched on the Switch 2 alongside the console’s release in 2025, and apparently did pretty well. I remember the internet practically melting down at the thought of it running on the Switch successor. It's a testament to how far they've come in optimizing the game. Cyberpunk has now surpassed 35 million sales and remains a consistent bestseller on Steam, proving that redemption is possible in the gaming world.

When Eurogamer reached out for comment on The Witcher 3 DLC rumors, CD Projekt Red predictably offered its standard "we do not comment on rumor or speculation" response. So, for now, we're left to sift through the whispers and wishful thinking. Is a Zerrikania expansion for The Witcher 3 a real possibility, or just a tantalizing fantasy? Only time will tell. But you can bet we’ll be keeping our ear to the ground, ready to report any further developments. Stay tuned, fellow Witchers!
