Volvo EX60 Range Anxiety? See the SHOCKING Solution!
Automotive 08 January 2026

Volvo seems determined to bury range anxiety deep in the past, and their upcoming EX60 electric SUV looks set to be the shovel. While the Swedish automaker might have tweaked its all-electric commitment date, pushing it back a bit from the originally stated 2030, they're definitely not pumping the brakes on EV development. We've had glimpses before, and now, ahead of its full reveal, Volvo's teasing us with more details about this promising electric SUV.

Volvo EX60 Range Anxiety? See the SHOCKING Solutio...

The latest shadowy images give us a better look at the front end – unmistakably Volvo, of course. But the real buzz is around the confirmed technical specs, released in anticipation of the global debut on January 21st. Volvo is boasting a 400-mile (that's roughly 643 km) range on a single charge, according to EPA testing. What's particularly interesting is that this impressive figure is for the all-wheel-drive version, which is naturally heavier than the single-motor variant. This suggests the single-motor EX60 could potentially squeeze out even more range.

And when that battery *does* eventually start to dip? Volvo claims a mere 10-minute pit stop on a DC fast charger will add a substantial 270 kilometers (about 168 miles) of range, thanks to its impressive 400 kW charging capability. Now, numbers vary depending on the testing cycle. In Europe, using the WLTP cycle, Volvo projects the EX60 to achieve a staggering 810 kilometers (around 503 miles) on a single charge. A 10-minute high-speed charge in Europe, under WLTP conditions, should give you an additional 340 kilometers (211 miles). Those are seriously impressive numbers and could genuinely alleviate concerns about long-distance travel.

So, what's the secret sauce? Volvo has developed its own electric motors in-house, focusing on minimizing weight and maximizing efficiency. Smart move. They're also employing a production technique called "mega casting," a process where large sections of the car's body are created from a single casting rather than welding together hundreds of smaller pieces. This not only saves weight but also improves structural rigidity. The battery pack itself features a new cell design, further contributing to the extended range. According to Chief Technology Officer Anders Bell, the EX60 is robust enough to "put an end to range anxiety." A bold claim, but the specs certainly back it up.

One final intriguing detail from the teaser? The EX60 appears to have a third row of seats! The image reveals a pair of rear seats that fold flat into the luggage compartment floor. This is a feature currently missing from the new BMW iX3 and even the electric Mercedes GLC (though a seven-seat version of the GLC is rumored to be on the way). If true, this could be a significant selling point for families needing that extra bit of occasional passenger space. It’ll be interesting to see how spacious that third row really is, though – I suspect it's best suited for smaller passengers on shorter journeys. Still, it's another reason to be excited about the full reveal of the EX60 on January 21st.
