Spencer Pratt for Mayor?! What Will REALLY Happen?!
Politics 08 January 2026

Spencer Pratt, the reality TV star best known for his antics on "The Hills," has officially thrown his hat into the ring for mayor of Los Angeles. Yes, you read that right. Pratt announced his mayoral bid Wednesday at a rally dramatically titled "They Let Us Burn!", and it seems the devastating Palisades wildfire from earlier this year is the driving force behind this unexpected career move.

Spencer Pratt for Mayor?! What Will REALLY Happen?...

Now, losing your home to a wildfire is an unimaginable tragedy, and Pratt clearly isn't holding back his feelings about how the whole situation was handled. He's been a pretty vocal critic of both Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass, accusing them of, essentially, dropping the ball when it came to preventing the deadly blaze. I mean, twelve lives lost? That's something that'll understandably light a fire in anyone, no pun intended. He's even gone as far as suing the city and publicly opposing those denser housing projects that everyone seems to be arguing about these days.

While Pratt himself hasn't responded to requests for comment (maybe he's too busy crafting his campaign slogan?), it's safe to say this is going to be an interesting race. Let's be honest, Los Angeles is a pretty liberal city, and Pratt is a Republican. That's an uphill battle if I've ever seen one. However, he's already snagged endorsements from some heavy hitters on the right, like Steve Hilton, who’s vying for governor, and Richard Grenell, a name you might recognize from the Trump administration. Grenell even praised Pratt's "passion and drive" on X, which, you know, is something.

So, who else is in the running? Well, Mayor Karen Bass is looking for a second term, and she'll be a tough opponent to beat given her establishment support. Then there's Austin Beutner, the former superintendent of LA schools, who’s got his own ideas about how to run things. And don't forget community organizer Rae Huang, who's likely to bring a different perspective to the table. It's shaping up to be a crowded field, and Pratt's entry definitely adds a wildcard element to the whole thing.

The deadline to officially declare candidacy is still a few weeks away, so anything could happen. But one thing's for sure: Spencer Pratt's mayoral run has already injected a healthy dose of…well, let's just say "unpredictability" into the Los Angeles political landscape. Whether he's a serious contender or just trying to stir the pot remains to be seen, but I, for one, will be watching closely. This is Los Angeles, after all. Expect the unexpected.
