Bolsonaro Back Behind Bars! Health Crisis After Shock Fall?
Health 07 January 2026

RIO DE JANEIRO – Well, the saga continues. Jair Bolsonaro, the former Brazilian president currently cooling his heels in a Brasilia prison, was briefly sprung on Wednesday for a bit of medical attention. Apparently, the 70-year-old took a tumble out of bed sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, and that resulted in a trip to the hospital for some brain scans.

Bolsonaro Back Behind Bars! Health Crisis After Sh...

Bolsonaro, as many will recall, is serving a hefty 27-year sentence for his role in that whole coup attempt mess – you know, the one involving plans to allegedly off President Lula, his Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and even Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes himself. It was quite the alleged plot, and it landed Bolsonaro where he is today.

According to reports, the fall resulted in "mild head trauma." Now, I've seen "mild head trauma" do some pretty interesting things to people, so it's probably good they're checking him out. His wife and son, Carlos, weren't exactly thrilled with the delay in getting him medical attention, airing their grievances on social media. Family's gonna family, right?

Justice de Moraes, who seems to be playing a central role in all things Bolsonaro these days, gave the green light for the hospital visit based on a federal police health report. The report stated that Bolsonaro was conscious and lucid, just sporting a minor facial cut. Think a nasty shaving nick, but maybe a little worse. The judge approved a tomography, brain scan, and a brain wave test requested by Bolsonaro's legal team. He made sure to stipulate that the transfer be "discreet" and that federal police handle the security and, crucially, the return trip back to the big house.

Interestingly, this isn't Bolsonaro's first time out of prison recently. He was released just last Thursday, a week after undergoing double hernia surgery. A double hernia, at 70? That's rough. You almost feel bad for the guy...almost. But then you remember the whole "coup attempt" thing and, well, sympathy fades pretty quickly.

Bolsonaro maintains his innocence, of course. He denies all charges, claiming it's all a big political witch hunt. But the courts seem to disagree. The charges against him are serious – leading an armed criminal organization and attempting to violently overthrow democratic rule are not exactly minor infractions. The fact that someone of his stature was involved says a lot. So, for now, it's back to prison for the former president, hopefully with a slightly better bed this time around.
