Happy New Year, bookworms! Welcome back to the grind – and more importantly, back to new books! This week marks the official start of the 2026 publishing season, and while things are just warming up, there are already some intriguing Young adult titles hitting shelves that deserve your attention. I've got my eye on a few, and I think you will too.
YA Fans, Prepare to be Hooked! Dragons, Swans & Mu...
One interesting trend we’re seeing again this week – and something that popped up a few times last year – is a simultaneous release in both hardcover and paperback. Publishers are clearly trying to reach different audiences, and I think it's a smart move, especially for YA where budgets can be tight. It gives teens (and their parents!) some flexibility, which is always appreciated.
This week's batch of books might not be the *most* diverse I've ever seen, but don't let that deter you! I'm expecting (and hoping for) a much wider range of voices and perspectives as the year rolls on. But for now, let's dive into the stories we *do* have. And hey, don't forget to enter our giveaway for a shot at a year's subscription to Book of the Month! Who wouldn't want that delivered to their doorstep?
First up, we have a mind-bending time-loop story. Carter Cohen, poor guy, is reliving his 16th birthday... for the SIXTH time! Can you imagine? That sounds like a literal nightmare! While the world around him keeps moving forward, he's stuck in a perpetual loop. His girlfriend, Maggie, is understandably struggling to deal with a relationship he barely remembers each time. The premise is compelling, and I'm curious to see if Carter can break free from the loop and somehow find a way to make things work with Maggie before she heads off to college. Will they find a way to move forward together, or will Carter be forever stuck sixteen?
On a much darker note, prepare yourselves for a reimagining of "Little Women." Brace yourselves: Beth March is found dead on New Year's Day. Murdered. In the woods. Yikes. This isn't your grandma's Louisa May Alcott! Her sisters are on a mission to uncover the truth behind her death. This one promises to be a twisty, suspenseful read, and I'm eager to see how the author puts a dark spin on this beloved classic. I'm personally a huge fan of darker retellings, so this one is absolutely on my TBR.
Finally, we have a tale of dragons and doomed romance (always a winning combination, in my opinion). Prince Arris is cursed: his marriage will lead to his death. Apparently, whoever marries the heir to the Isle of Malys gets the throne, and Arris gets turned into a tree. Talk about a bad deal! His only hope is to find true love, but how can he tell genuine affection from cold, hard ambition? When his parents announce a bride tournament, Arris is understandably apprehensive. Can he navigate the world of lavish parties and forced dates to find someone who actually cares about him before it’s too late? It sounds like a captivating fantasy read.
