Kırşehir, Turkey – The world of traditional Turkish music mourns the loss of Adem Göçer, a celebrated drummer and recipient of the prestigious "UNESCO Living Human Treasure" award, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 67 after a battle with colon cancer. Göçer, a beloved figure in the Kırşehir region and beyond, was laid to rest yesterday in a moving ceremony attended by dignitaries, fellow musicians, and a large contingent of grieving citizens.

Göçer's health had been declining for several months. After initially being treated at Kırşehir Training and Research Hospital following a diagnosis of colon cancer three months ago, he was later transferred to a private hospital in İzmir for further treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Göçer's condition deteriorated, and he was brought back to his hometown of Kaman in Kırşehir, where he ultimately succumbed to the illness.

The funeral service, held at the Kaman Çarşı Mosque, was a testament to Göçer's significant impact on the community. Among the attendees were Kırşehir Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek, CHP Kırşehir Deputy Metin İlhan, Kırşehir Mayor Selahattin Ekicioğlu, and Kaman Mayor Emre Demirci, alongside representatives from the provincial Gendarmerie and Police forces, and the Provincial Culture and Tourism Director. The presence of numerous representatives of the "abdal" tradition, a significant cultural heritage of the region, further underscored Göçer's importance as a guardian of traditional arts.

Following the funeral prayers, Adem Göçer was interred in the Cuma Neighborhood Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy that will undoubtedly resonate for generations. His son, Cesur Göçer, poignantly captured the essence of his father's character, stating, "He wasn't just my father. He was everyone's Adem Göçer, whether in Kaman or Kırşehir. He was everyone's Adem Göçer. He was the father of Adem."

Adem Göçer's contribution to preserving and promoting Turkish folk music, particularly through his mastery of the drum, earned him the UNESCO Living Human Treasure award from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
