Movies & TV Series 07 January 2026

In a move that signals a new chapter for the company, Mainstay Entertainment has announced the promotion of Derek Van Pelt and Ray Moheet to Co-CEOs. It's a big step up for the pair, who have both been with Mainstay since its founding back in 2017. This isn't just a reshuffling of titles; it's a clear indication of the faith Mainstay's founder, Norman Aladjem, has in their leadership.

Van Pelt and Moheet will now be responsible for the day-to-day grind at Mainstay. They'll be working closely with Aladjem, who will continue as Chairman, to steer the company's strategic direction and long-term growth. Essentially, they're taking the reins while Aladjem continues to provide the overarching vision. They will also be continuing their existing producing and management duties. It's a lot to juggle, but their track record suggests they're more than capable.

Before taking on these new roles, both Van Pelt and Moheet have proven themselves integral to Mainstay's success as manager/producers. Moheet's production credits speak for themselves, including films like *Before I Go*, *A Simple Wedding*, and *Jimmy Vestvood*. He also executive produced Blumhouse/Hulu’s *Into the Dark*, and some seriously funny comedy specials, including *The Birds and the Bees* and *Immigrant* from Maz Jobrani, as well as Heather McDonald’s *I Don’t Mean to Brag*. That’s a pretty diverse portfolio, showcasing his ability to navigate different genres and platforms. Seriously, that Hulu *Into the Dark* series was oddly compelling.

In a joint statement, Van Pelt and Moheet expressed their gratitude and commitment. "We’re honored by the trust that’s been placed in us and grateful for the opportunity to continue building the company together," they said. "The work ethic, values, and approach that have guided us from the beginning remain unchanged, and we’re excited to lead the business forward alongside Norm and this incredible team.” It's a classic, diplomatic statement, but it underscores their dedication to the company's existing values and collaborative spirit.

Mainstay Entertainment boasts a seriously impressive client list, a testament to their strength in talent management. Names like David Archuleta, Katherine Heigl, Trevor Noah, and Hayden Panettiere are among the diverse group represented by the company. The breadth of talent suggests they're not pigeonholing themselves into any one specific area of the entertainment industry.

Looking ahead, Mainstay has some exciting projects in the pipeline. They're working on adapting Trevor Noah’s bestselling memoir *Born a Crime* and developing the genre-bending vampire western *The Sun Always Sets in the West* for Lionsgate, slated for a 2026 start date. On the television side, they're developing a range of projects including Patti Stanger’s *Strike a Match* series for The CW and *Disappeared: The Bradley Sisters* for Discovery ID. Plus, they're executive producing *Martha’s Vineyard v. DeSantis*, an upcoming documentary for MSNBC and Peacock. That last one is bound to get some attention, given the subject matter. With such a diverse slate of projects, it's clear Mainstay is positioning itself for continued growth and success under its new leadership.
