Alright, Sonic fans, let's talk about the future of our favorite blue hedgehog on Nintendo platforms. With the rumored Switch 2 finally a reality – Nintendo officially unveiled it last month, and it’s hitting shelves next spring – the question isn't *if* we'll get more Sonic games, but *when* and *what* will they be? Currently, the original Nintendo Switch boasts a healthy library of Sonic titles, giving players plenty to chew on.
Sonic on Switch in 2026?! The Lineup That Will SHO...
As of today, nine mainline Sonic games are available on the OG Switch, and the most recent addition, *Sonic Racing: Crossworlds*, came out just last year. The good news is that backward compatibility is seemingly confirmed for the Switch 2 (thank you, Nintendo!), so all those existing Sonic adventures will still be playable when you inevitably upgrade. But let’s be honest, the real excitement lies with the potential Switch 2 exclusives. Before we dive into speculation, let's do a quick recap of what’s currently available.
Let's get to what's on the store right now. First up, we have *Sonic Mania*. This is a must-have, plain and simple. Developed with serious love and attention by PagodaWest Games and Sonic guru Christian Whitehead, *Sonic Mania* is basically a love letter to the glory days of the Sega Genesis. It takes iconic levels like Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone, remixes them to perfection, and throws in five brand new zones like the very cool Studiopolis Zone. Plus, the Hard-Boiled Heavies are genuinely fun boss fights – a fresh take on the Eggbot formula. If you haven't played this yet, seriously, what are you waiting for?
Then there's *Sonic Forces*. Now, *Forces* is a bit more divisive. It brings together Classic and Modern Sonic to fight against Dr. Eggman and his new masked buddy, Infinite. The gameplay alternates between the familiar Boost style of Modern Sonic, the classic side-scrolling of Classic Sonic, and a customizable avatar character with Wisp-powered abilities. Look, the story isn't exactly Shakespeare, and the lighting can be a little wonky, but some people (myself included, on occasion) find the game enjoyable for what it is: a fast-paced, if slightly flawed, Sonic adventure.
Next, we've got *Team Sonic Racing*. This one's all about teamwork. Taking cues from games like *Splatoon* and *Overwatch*, it asks you to race *with*, not against, your teammates. You form teams of three, sharing Wisp power-ups and keeping an eye on each other's performance to secure the win. The kart customization is a nice touch too – who doesn't want a kart with gold rims?
Finally, there's *Sonic Colors: Ultimate*, a remastered version of the Wii classic. Blind Squirrel Games did a solid job here, giving the game a visual upgrade. The colors are brighter, the character models are sharper, and there's even a new Jade Ghost Wisp that lets Sonic phase through walls. It's a great way to experience *Colors* if you missed it the first time around, or if you just want to see it in glorious HD.
