Naughty Dog Legend Enters Hall of Fame - See His Shocking Impact!
Gaming News 06 January 2026

Big news from the gaming world! Evan Wells, the former president of Naughty Dog, is set to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) Hall of Fame. This is a huge honor, and frankly, well-deserved given his impact on the industry.

The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 12th during the 29th annual D.I.C.E. Awards, held at the Aria Resort in Las Vegas. It's going to be a star-studded event, I'm sure. Wells, a veteran of over 30 years in the video game business, has had a remarkable career trajectory.

Think about it: He started as a designer on the quirky and beloved ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron. Remember that one? From there, he transitioned to Crystal Dynamics, honing his programming skills on Gex before becoming the lead designer on Gex: Enter the Gecko. Not exactly the titles you'd immediately associate with the gritty realism of *The Last of Us*, but hey, everyone starts somewhere!

His real impact, of course, came at Naughty Dog. Joining the studio in 1998, Wells played a pivotal role in some of their most iconic titles. We're talking Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Crash Team Racing, and the entire Jak and Daxter trilogy. These games weren't just fun; they were defining experiences for a generation of gamers. I still have fond memories of battling it out on Crash Team Racing with my friends. Simpler times, right?

Wells ascended to co-president of Naughty Dog in 2004, and later became the sole president in 2017. During his leadership, the studio unleashed the critically acclaimed Uncharted and The Last of Us franchises on the world. He also served as an executive producer for the on-screen adaptations, including the Uncharted film and HBO's The Last of Us TV series. The success of the latter is, in my opinion, a testament to his vision and guidance. In 2020, Neil Druckmann, co-creator of The Last of Us, was promoted to co-president, sharing leadership duties until Wells' retirement in 2023.

Neil Druckmann, now Naughty Dog's studio head and head of creative, had this to say in a press release: "Naughty Dog was able to create some truly incredible games and leave a lasting mark on the industry because of Evan’s unwavering leadership and the trust he placed in all of us... I know I speak for many across the industry when I congratulate Evan on this well-deserved recognition. It’s a profound honor to present him with this Hall of Fame induction.”

Wells joins an impressive roster of past AIAS Hall of Fame inductees, including industry giants like Ted Price, Koji Kondo, Tim Schafer, and Hideo Kojima. Quite the company to be in, wouldn't you say? It's a testament to the enduring legacy he's built over his impressive career.
