Lionsgate Exec SHOCK Exit! What's Behind the Sudden Move?!
Movies & TV Series 05 January 2026

Lionsgate is losing a key player in its international TV division. Noel Hedges, the studio's international TV acquisitions chief, has officially departed after eight years with Entertainment One (eOne) and, subsequently, Lionsgate. The news, while perhaps expected given recent industry trends, still signals a shift in Lionsgate's international strategy.

Lionsgate Exec SHOCK Exit! What's Behind the Sudde...

Hedges, based in the UK office, quietly exited the company late last year, making the announcement public today via LinkedIn. "After eight wonderful years at Entertainment One and Lionsgate – and with huge thanks to the brilliant teams I’ve worked with along the way – I wrapped up at the end of November and am stepping into something new," he posted. Details on his next move remain undisclosed, leaving many to speculate about where this seasoned acquisitions pro will land next.

A well-respected figure in the often-cutthroat world of international TV acquisitions, Hedges held the title of Executive VP of Acquisitions and Co-productions in Lionsgate’s international TV department. This position came about after Lionsgate acquired eOne from Hasbro in December 2023, a deal that significantly expanded Lionsgate's content library and international reach. Before joining Lionsgate, Hedges served in a similar capacity at eOne, demonstrating his knack for identifying and securing valuable international content.

But Hedges' resume extends far beyond just Lionsgate and eOne. He also boasts experience as EVP of Content at UK-based distributor DRG (now part of All3Media), SVP of Acquisitions for Canada’s Cineflix Media, and Head of Acquisitions for Shine International, the global arm of Liz Murdoch's former indie production group. It's a pretty impressive track record, highlighting his deep understanding of the global media landscape. Even before those roles, he honed his skills with eleven years at ITV Studios and earlier at the BBC, a solid foundation for any media executive.

Hedges' departure does raise some questions, especially considering the recent industry-wide cost-cutting measures. It comes on the heels of Craig Piligian's exit from Lionsgate Alternative Media and Piligian Media Group, reported last month. Let's not forget Deadline's reporting on Lionsgate's 5% headcount reduction back in September 2025, following an earlier round of layoffs. All of this points towards a period of readjustment within Lionsgate, and perhaps the broader media industry. Whether Hedges' exit is directly related to these cost-saving initiatives remains unconfirmed, but it's certainly a context worth considering. The entertainment industry is always in flux, but these departures do make you wonder about the future strategies being implemented behind the scenes.
