While the K-pop scene seems to be trending toward smaller, more focused groups, Modhaus is throwing that playbook out the window. Their ambitious boy band project, idntt, just upped the ante, officially expanding to a whopping 15 members with the launch of their second unit, 'yesweare'. This marks a significant step in their journey toward a truly massive, and honestly kind of mind-boggling, 24-member roster.
K-Pop Group IDNTT Explodes! 15 Members?! What Happ...
For those not in the know, idntt is the brainchild of Modhaus, the company also responsible for the popular girl group tripleS. The concept? A gradual unveiling of members, piece by piece. It all started last August with the debut of 'unevermet', a seven-member unit that served as the initial taste of what idntt was aiming to be. Now, with the addition of the eight members of 'yesweare', the project is taking shape. The final piece of the puzzle, a unit called 'itsnotover', is still to come.
To celebrate this expansion, idntt dropped their album "yesweare" on Monday, kicking off promotions as a full 15-member group. Apparently, all 15 members gathered at Blue Square SOL Travel Hall in Seoul hours before the release, holding a press event to introduce the project's exciting second phase. I can only imagine the logistics of managing that many people!
The event was a veritable K-pop convention, with all 15 members present and accounted for. That included the 'unevermet' crew – Kim Do-hun, Kim Hee-ju, Choi Tae-in, Lee Jae-young, Kim Ju-ho, Nam Ji-woon, and Lee Hwan-hee – alongside the new 'yesweare' recruits: Lee Cheong-myeong, Towa, Lee Kyu-hyuk, Park Nu-ri, Kim Seong-jun, Han Ye-joon, Choi Gyeong-been, and Hwang Eun-soo. Quite a mouthful, I know.
Members who'd already experienced the 'unevermet' promotions described the addition of eight new faces as a game-changer, not just a simple increase in headcount. Kim Do-hun admitted the transition wasn't always smooth sailing, but emphasized that the group's cohesion has only grown stronger over time. That’s the kind of team spirit you love to see!
And this shift in dynamic is apparently reflected in their new album, "yesweare." It's a departure from the "discovery" vibes of 'unevermet's' debut, instead embracing a more confident and assertive attitude. The title track, "Pretty Boy Swag," sounds like a real banger, blending bass, electronic guitar, and brass with some seriously large-scale choreography for all 15 members. The album also features electronic tracks, which highlight the debut of the new members.
With a group this size, diversity is key. "With so many members, everyone brings their own individuality. That’s why we believe our identity is diversity," stated Lee Cheong-myeong. It sounds like they are building a supportive environment, and who knows, maybe idntt is about to rewrite the K-pop rulebook and prove that bigger really can be better.
